Nintendo says that they are not ignoring their core gamers, even with the lack of core games on the Wii. Shigeru Miyamoto said that at E3 new Zelda and Mario games are being developed, and now it has been said that the games won't be out for a few years.

Because of the absence of games for the "core gamer" in E3, Nintendo was put under the spotlight. Has Nintendo abandoned its core community? The answer is a resounding "no."

Back at E3, Shigeru Miyamoto himself explained that new Zelda and Mario games are in the works, but he didn't go much into detail about it. Now Nintendo has revealed that the "core games" in development - presumably the Zelda and Mario games Miyamoto was talking about - won't be out for a few more years:

We have never neglected our core gamers. We still have developers working on popular core gaming franchises but we need longer to complete these games, approximately two to three years.

These games are not ready to launch in early 2009 but are being worked on by all development teams.

So don't fret it, core gamers, the games are coming. Maybe not in the near future, but they are coming. Take Satoru Iwata's word for it when he commented to Forbes last month:

If there is any perception that Nintendo is ignoring the core gamers, it's a misunderstanding and we really want to get rid of that misunderstanding by any means.

No new Zelda for another two years? Bullshit. They've been working on Zelda Wii for three years already. Wind Waker wasn't in development for nearly five years.

Maybe they'd been working on for some years and the Motion Plus messed it up and they need to develop gameplay around it.

So they want us to keep playing our already finished copies of Smash Bros. and Mario Kart until Holiday 09?

I thought the casual gamers were their core audience.

No core games for the Wii until late 2009?
Oh wait, they were only talking about Mario and Zelda. Not the truckload of core titles that third-parties are developing for Wii that will be coming out late this year or early next year. >_>

Early next year may have Coduit, Madworld, FFIV, Dead Rising, and things along those lines.

The key words in your post is "Next year may"

No, "Early next year may". They are going to be coming out next year. Only major lapses in development of the games will have them delayed until 2010.

I'm not asking about early next year. That's still 4 months away. I'm asking about this year. The BIG Fall season when we get flooded with the big blockbuster games like Little Big Planet, Gears of War 2, and Fallout 3. What does Nintendo have for everyone to drool over?

Only thing I can think of is Rock Band 2. But you get it last and it isn't exclusive.

Keep in mind, this is referring to in-house titles. This doesn't include third party titles or even games that Nintendo is publishing (such as Fatal Frame IV, Disaster or any others). Basically, from what we know, don't expect Mario, Zelda or Pikmin for Q1 2009.

Speaking of which, it seems like people are forgetting that there are six months between Q1 and Q4 2009.

Which is why Nintendo should say that Mario and Zelda aren't coming until 2009, and not that "core games" aren't coming until 2009.

Well there most likely trying to make a great game and they need all the time they can get. I want to see a new mairo game. Thats just about going after stars. Or mini suns. But there fun games. I want to see mairo game that ends the fight with bowser. But I don't think that will ever happen

Stop making Mario's and Zelda's. Make a new flagship franchise for the Wii already. Its like everywhere I look at the library its some game with Mario in it, im sick of Mario. This coming from an old Nintendo fan and Mario fan. I mean I hope they're making more titles, new franchises then just making more MP, Mario's and Zelda's. <_<

Yeah, Nintendo is going to stop making it's two most important franchises because one person put of the millions and millions of fans is saying he's sick of it. Boohoo. If you don't like them, then don't play Nintendo anymore.

Stop talking nonsense ok. Im not the only one sick and tired of Nintendo milk fest of those three titles. Ask any old time Nintendo fan over the age of 18, and we can tell you were sick and tired of them all. Majority of the library of the Wii in mostly filled with some mario titles. If you honestly think people are sick and tired of a FF7 compilation, then you surely haven't witness many of old time Nintendo fan's and Mario fan's.

Also you confused my statement, I never said 100% to stop making those titles, I said to make more flagship franchises for the Wii. Listen tell me how many titles the PS3 and 360 have that could actually be the flagship franchise of their system? Yes more than 3 and I can guarantee you most of them are brand new titles. LBP will become, at one point, a new flagship title for the PS3 and Sony's future. They don't sit on past great games anymore. The only thing Nintendo seems to have is Mario, Zelda and Metroid Prime titles to help make the system sell. Its just annoying and frustrating when the only games that looks mildly interesting has Mario, Zelda and MP in it. NEW FLAGSHIP FRANCHISES, is all im asking and many more Nintendo fans. I've been a fan of Nintendo since the NES, and SNES. Milking those titles that has been around for longer than 15 years is too much and too long.
