Within the next few hours, at 1PM Japan time, RPG powerhouse Square Enix will outline its plans to takeover beleaguered publisher Tecmo.

Tecmo is currently in a troubled state after Itagaki-gate, and their former president Yoshimi Yasuda resigning.

Square Enix had also acquired Taito in 2005.

There will be more news as it hits.

Today at 1pm Japan Time, Square Enix will be outlining its plans for a friendly takeover troubled game maker Tecmo. Square Enix's takeover would help the company gain a stronger foothold in the U.S. market with popular Tecmo titles like the Ninja Gaiden and Dead or Alive games. What's more, Tecmo's games will help strengthen Square Enix's current portfolio, which is heavily dependent on RPGs.

This isn't the first time Square Enix has moved in on a beleaguered company. In August 2005, Square Enix acquired Taito and wholly owned the company as a subsidiary by September 2005.

    Smart bunch of bastards.
I just hope they fire all the jerks at Tecmo, haha. Maybe then we can get Itagaki back in his rightful place.

Im glad he's gone, he far supported the 360 too much when he was there. With him gone and this happening I wouldn't be surprised to see more Ninja Gaiden's and DOA on the PS3.

FB's got a point; Sigma may have seen a PS3 sequel if Itagaki hadn't been such an ass. "We just wanted to give them a taste of what Xbox has been getting for years." Phhh.

But I agree, Squenix is just like Itagaki.

Difference is that I don't particularly care about any of Tecmo's IP's.

          =P

You miss my point entirely, The fact is, Itagaki could have made more money had he not agreed to MS publishing NG2, and had a sequel for PS3.

The fact that the PS3 deserves more Tecmo games then just a 'taste' is ridiculous. He's a 360 fanboy who rides MS dick too many times. I hope to god he doesn't come back to tecmo.

@slumpy: that's because Nomura didn't give the 360 any "tastes". We're complaining about Squenix and Itagaki because they led you to believe they were supporting the PS3, when in reality they were just pretending; FFXIII is multiplatform after being advertised as PS3 exclusive, and Itagaki returned the Ninja Gaiden series to 360-exclusivity after making a PS3 exclusive one.

We're not bellyaching, if that's what you mean. Why can't people just point things out for the sake of pointing things out?

Ironic that the people complaining that they hate Itagaki because he "rode Microsoft's dick" are the same people who sulked when FFXIII went multiplat and are thrilled that Nomura is keeping Final Fantasy Versus PS3 exclusive.

          Just saying.

The possibility of more Fatal Frame? ... the possibility of more Fatal Frame gaining a stronger fanbase in the US?

    Yes, plz!

Gothic Girl. Always has Fatal Frame on the brain

I still don't think this will occur, even with Tecmo's recent troubles.

Not really GG. Its a different scenario. They gave a taste of NG on PS3, and he turned around and didn't feel like making another game for the system. Especially considering he's a flighter pilot and he calls the PS creator the same. And I'd assume he would understand the real point of making more money, increase fanbase. All he cares about is MS penis, where as Sony does whatever they want for money. See thats the difference and where they get more respect.
