Unfortunately, Nintendo has said that they might not be able to make enough Wiis to satisfy the demand by this Christmas. Even though they are making way more then they used to, but they still don't think it will be enough. In the entire world, they are making 2.4 Wiis a month.

What about the holidays?

For Nintendo, we project very strong sales. Our two platforms [Wii and DS] account for almost 70% of the dollar growth of the industry in the U.S. in the first nine months of this year, compared to last year.

Given that strong position, retailers are providing us with tremendous support. Retailers view the Wii and the DS as a way to draw more consumers into their stores. They are using it as a loss leader to drive traffic. This week, for example, Target is selling the DS for $125, when the normal price is $129.99.

What measures has Nintendo taken to prevent a shortage of Wii consoles this holiday?

Nintendo has continually raised the production levels of the Wii hardware. We're now producing 2.4 million units a month worldwide. Last year, we made 1.6 million a month. So we've made a 33% increase. One of our competitors projects they will sell 10 million consoles worldwide this year. For us, that's three months of production. We're producing an unprecedented level of hardware to try to meet demand.

Perhaps, but this generation they've at the very least failed their hardcore crowd badly.

Sony is doing fine. They are still keeping up with Microsoft month to month and for the most part beating them. Taking potshots at either Sony or Microsoft is pathetic when the Wii has the worst attach rate of all three.

No matter what he does, he won't fix it this generation, and he shouldn't have to fix it solo. Besides, as Final Blade says, Wii Music is something that is pretty bad especially considering Rock Band 2 and Guitar Hero: World Tour being out there at the moment, and it's one of his most loved ideas apparently.

The simple fact is that although Nintendo has really done well this generation via the casual crowd, next generation they are going to fall flat on their faces if they don't do some major improvements on the console itself, and their selection of games. If you ask me, their first mistake was a lack of true high definition graphics. Trying not to compete with Sony and Microsoft with graphical power and such is fine but it doesn't give them the excuse to just use last gen engines and be done with it. There are a lot of other things they've done wrong but I won't go into it.

Oh, and just so you can't call me a fanboy of the other two consoles or anything, I have a Wii, I love it, they just happened to fail in some places.

You love it? Yay I won your soul for Nintendo, inspite of your criticisms.

Nope, you didn't win it for them. I'm still a multi-console fan, and I already liked Nintendo.

Yes cause we all know Miyamoto is the man when it comes to games. If Wii Music hasn't already proven how horrible and gimmicky it is.

Telling me he's the man to fix the hardcore crowd, when his current games aren't at all anything to boast about, that makes me sad as a Nintendo fan, and scared deeply for the company, that no one else can come up with a brilliant idea thats actually awesome.

i think a good number of the wii sales are from wii-owners who haven't played it in so long that they forgot they already have one, and then bought another when mario kart came out.

Well that's expected (Wii production vs demand)! I mean, Wii's are the easiest to buy AND play for most people. The controls are easier for most people (not me though, I'm so used to a regular controller that the wiimotes are a bit tough for me at times), and being as inexpensive as they are . . . they're going to sell!

It also makes for great spontaneous buys, because they're fun at times, and GREAT for when you have friends/family over (for the HOLIDAYS)! It's as if the Wii was made for holiday shopping, haha. I do miss enjoying Nintendo consoles and games like I used to though. I have a Wii but don't spend much time on it compared to my PS3 (even my 360 is almost neglected now too).
