Chances are that games being an escapist entertainment medium, the $50 spent to get away from the worries in life are far more rewarding than say spending the same on a coffee machine. The same is probably also happening with DVD and Blu-Ray, anything digital is probably selling well in comparison to necessary items that just keep the user deep in the reality of the situation at hand.

Personally, I think it's all hysteria caused by the media.

YES, things are VERY BAD at the minute, but the average guy on the street isn't £100's down every month as the papers suggest, he's £40 down a month. What the media does is slap a bad face on it all and discourages people from doing things like going for a night out or on holiday and buying new cars etc., but when they find they actually DO have a bit of spare cash, they'll spend it on something to do on all those nights they're now spending at home...

    That's just my opinion, however.

Yeah, the recession isn't as bad as everyone's making it out to be. Sure, if you own a shop, then unlucky, but for normal people, it's not TOO bad, sometimes good, especially if shops are selling stuff cheaper, which COULD very well explain why gaming hasn't gone down since.

Not to mention the fact that there was a crap load of great games that released this fall. And we all know how gamers are when he comes to their video games.

There was a lot of good games and money is becoming tighter, so it;s kinda natural high street spendings would be up.
