Call of Duty Black Ops Voted ‘Best Game Ending’ Of All Time
18 hours 22 mins ago
With the recent acquisition of the 1UP network by UGO, many fans are upset over the deal. Neoseeker delves into the inner workings of the change, and finds things aren't quite as bad as they seem.
Also, if you're interested in acquiring the 1UP FM podcast set (debatably one of the best things to come out of games journalism), what with its impending death and all, staffer Nick Suttner has posted a torrent link to the entire thing -- it can be found here.
If you haven't heard the news yet, Underground Gaming Online (UGO) has acquired the 1UP network, a popular gaming news portal housing 1UP.com, GameVideos.com, MyCheats.com, and GameTab.com. The sites were formerly run by Ziff-Davis media, who also own a bunch of other publications, including Electronic Gaming Monthly (EGM), which, with this news, is being shut down.
The end result from fans is a whole lot of rage and sadness over on the 1UP page featuring the announcement, with reactions lamenting the loss of certain team members (a list can be found here, as well as a look at the economics behind the decision), and just straight to the point "UGO *bleep* YOURSELVES!" kind of answers.
I certainly feel for these folks. I mean, big bad entertainment website ("zomg lifestyle for gamerz! Babes, DVDs, firetrucks, lobsters", as Destructoid words it) takes over once-successful but humble video game website. And really, it's great to see people actually care this much. But it's not all bad.
