In a move that we see far too often from both Sony and Microsoft, Xbox 360 product management director Aaron Greenberg let's you all know that the PS3 is failing while the Xbox 360 is still rising. In this little talk with GamaSutra, he even goes as far as to say that if Lost & Damned were a retail release, "It would have outsold Killzone 2." Console wars, amusing stuff.

The executive painted a particularly bleak picture of the PlayStation brand at retail, saying retail partners have characterized it as "hemorrhaging," in part because many existing PlayStation 2 owners are migrating to Xbox 360 rather than PlayStation 3.

"You can't underestimate that we're half the price of the PS3 at a time when consumers were looking for great value," he said. "The PS3 was down in February two percent even with the launch of Killzone 2 -- that's months of year-over-year declines. Xbox continues to head north while the PS3 is heading south. We're gaining share."

"But what we hear from our partners is that it's not just PS3, it's also PS2 down 62 percent year over year," he continued. "With that business declining, and with the PS3 business declining, it's been described to me as hemorrhaging at retail right now, and it just keeps getting worse.

"What we're finding in our research is that a large portion of the volume we're driving with Xbox 360 purchasers is actually PS2 owners choosing Xbox for the next generation. We're switching people from the PlayStation brand over to the Xbox brand."

"If that content was sold at retail, it would be one of the best sellers across all platforms," he added. "It would have outsold Killzone 2."

lol, where did he get that from? A lot of the people who bought IV were disappointed with the game. I can't see L&D outselling KZ2 at all.

Also, wasn't there a recent article on Resident evil 5 selling more copies on the PS3 than 360?

Just playing devil's advocate here.... but if just a fraction of the 360's GTAIV userbase (5 million at least) bought L&D, I can easily seeing it outselling KZ2 (323k) .. keep in mind I am only thinking of "at launch" ... Long term though, KZ2 will most likely kill it (or so I hope).

Edit: I posted the wrong KillZone 2 numbers, I put in the correct NPD numbers)

Those NPD numbers are only for the first 2 days of Killzone being sold. It's been out for around 3 weeks now.

And I think TLAD would probably sell more than KZ2, assuming it kept the same price point as it has for download. A lot more people have 360s, a lot of them bought GTA4, and most normal gamers liked it. Only we who go to gaming sites and complain about things really thought GTA4 could have been a lot better.

Mhmm, but the vast majority were very happy with it. It was an excellent game, maybe not as good as III but that set a ridiculously high bar, and TLAD is equally good, if not better.

No, the article was about RES5 selling 55% of its copies on 360 and 45% on ps3 in the uk.

Heh . . . Children. Will they ever learn?

Does anyone sometimes think these companies take jabs at each other simply for the fans? Sorta like how wrestling is acted out and everything, for the fans?

Well I think it now makes it easier for me to handle hearing it, if I consider it to be all acted out.

        No more frustration! I'm FREEE!

At first I thought he must have been drunk when he said this but the more I think about it the less unimaginable it seems. The lost and damned is half the price and I have seen the TLAD commertial probly like 30+ times opposed to the Killzone 2 commertial which Ive seen 3 or 4. I didn't think GTA4 was that impressive but 13 year old kids will buy anything GTA related so TLAD could have came close.

Article has all kinds of FAIL written all over it. Killzone 2 is probably one of the best-crafted FPSs as of yet, and calling it out to be worse than even DLC is a poor shot.

More of an interview than an article, also it wasn't saying Killzone 2 is a worse game than L&D, just saleswise it wouldn't have sold as much.. which I agree.

Well, of course LATD would sell more; it's cheaper, isn't it? By far I would assume. Besides, LATD is selling into an already-established GTAIV userbase.

Might sell more, but not provide more revenue I'm sure.

Saying Killzone 2 is better than TLAD because it's DLC is, well, a bit stupid. TLAD is an excellent title, and anyone with a 360 and GTA should buy it.

FWIW, I actually did prefer my free copy of Killzone 2 to TLAD, but Castle Crashers was significantly better than both of them.
