Video game publisher Activision Blizzard formally sued game developer Double Fine Studios on Wednesday. The point of contention? Tim Schafer's Brutal Legend, the Xbox 360/PlayStation 3 game starring Jack Black.

Activision Blizzard claims that it still has a valid contract for the title, and had invested roughly $15 million in the game. The lawsuit issued by Activision Blizzard states that Double Fine transferred rights that were owned by the company to the now-current publisher Electronic Arts.

The Associated Press attempted to contact both Double Fine and Electronic Arts, but received no response.

Activision is suing to stop the release of the Jack Black video game "Brutal Legend."

Activision Entertainment Holdings sued game developer Double Fine Productions in Santa Monica, Calif., on Wednesday. The lawsuit claims that Double Fine transferred rights owned by Activision to Electronic Arts, which plans to release the game later this year.

Activision claims it still has a valid contract to release the game and has invested roughly $15 million in it.

Phone and e-mail messages left for Double Fine and Electronic Arts representatives weren't immediately returned.

"Brutal Legend" features Black as a heavy-metal roadie transported to a mythical world to fight evil. It's been heavily promoted at this week's Electronic Entertainment Expo.

I thought this was one of the games that they decided to drop during their merger with Blizzard. Are they getting jealous because there's a larger crowd following the game now than they had expected?

    quote
In response to all this shady legal business, EA likened it to "a husband abandoning his family and then suing after his wife meets a better looking guy." Double Fine president Tim Schafer had this to say: "Hey, if Activision liked it, then they should have put a ring on it. Oh great, now Beyonce is going to sue me too."
ROFL. After that i actually am beginning to LIKE EA.

    YOU GO EA!

This is nothing more than the bitching of a company who lost what is going to be fantastic, original game.

EA has invested time and money into Tim Schafer's project. They deserve to reap the benefits. Nuff said.
