The last time I seen Nielsen Ratings posted here, the Playstation 2 was on the decline of usage, but still number 1. Well, the most recent ratings show... it is still number 1.

The most recent statistics show the continued dominance of the current generation of consoles by the Xbox 360 (with a 21.1% usage minutes). The Wii and Playstation 3 come in third and fourth places with 17.6% and 10.5% respectively.

The statistics for the previous generation of consoles is not as kind to both Microsoft's Xbox consoles. Being used much less than the Playstation 2, which has a 21.6% showing, ranking the system the most played console for the month of April.

This makes sense. I see PS2's everywhere. They are cheap and compact and the games are abundant and cheap. PS2 offers a wide library of games for people who might not be hardcore gamers. Makes a great gift for kids who could care less about what they play because it's so cheap.

Plays DVD's and CD's as well.

Of course its number 1, it's been out for nearly 10years and has a wide selection of classic titles and also plays all PS1 games unlike the PS3.

So really it makes sense for it to be there, also because alot of people might not want to make the jump to next gen and wish to stay with their PS2, it's also why alot of games are still being made for the console.

Hell i still have my PS2 and constantly play DVDs on it and also use it to play games like Devil May Cry, Kingdom Hearts and all the Final Fantasy games.

It's only in the lead by .5% .. it doesn't seem like it would take much to push the 360 over the top, just a couple of big name releases and it should be good.

When November hits, i can see that being the big time for 360 as Left 4 Dead 2, Bioshock 2, Assassins Creed 2 and Modern Warfare 2 will push it over the edge.

Now I know that 3 of the 4 games i just listed aren't exclusive, but they do sell more on the 360 than on the PS3.

What I am quite shocked at is that the 360 is used more than the Wii, now I do hate Nintendo and got rid of my Wii and yes I am a big 360 fan, but i thought the 360 would have been beaten by the Wii.
2010 will be the more interesting year, especially with Mass Effect 2 coming out and consuming peoples souls again like the first one did.

It's actually 0.5% though. And it's still amazing that a console with that many years on it manages to keep on going like this.
