Electronic Theatre reports on the poor sales of Sony published PLAYSTATION 3 releases in North America, with Resistance: Fall of Man being the only first-party title to surpass 1m sales.
It’s been reported today that Sony are having difficulty making million sellers out of their first-party PLAYSTATION 3 (PS3) releases in North America. Since the PS3’s North American launch in late November 2006, only Insomniac’s launch title Resistance: Fall of Man has managed to surpass one million unit sales in the territory.

I guess it just goes to show how close-minded some people are in NA; when excellent titles like MGS4 don't get the consumer appreciation here that they deserve...
In any case, Konami is second party, no?
I think it's more a case of the PS3 being not as widely adopted at this point as the PS2 was -- though 2 sold seven million, 3 sold four million, and 4 has sold three million. Hmmm. Course "Snake Eater" wasn't the most appealing title..then again everyone hated Raiden. I have no idea.
Also...NO console will ever be as widely adopted as the PS2.
Far as I can tell, the only notable ones (as in, ones actually likely to have surpassed 1m) are inFamous, Killzone 2 and Uncharted -- upcoming ones include Heavy Rain, GT5, The Last Guardian, Uncharted 2, God of War III.
I wouldn't say never -- it was quite a feat but gaming is always growing.
For Sony's first party software:
inFamous (as of May 2009 NPD): 175.9k in US
As of April 2009 NPD data:
In reality, right now it's probably one of the best entertainment investments you can make, regardless of first party sales.
Didn't know sales were quite that low however, I guess the majority of the US just don't like Uncharted, Killzone and Motorstorm.
PS: Resistance has only sold 1.4 million(bundles included)
First-Party: Applies when a title is published and funded by the console manufacturer.
Second-Party: Applies when a game is published by a console manufacturer but not funded.
Third-Party: Applies when a game is funded and published by an entirely external source, i.e. Activision, EA etc.
Second-party is like Atari publishing Namco's Tekken 6 in Europe. They didn't have anything to do with the game, they're just sticking their name on it and putting it on shop shelves. As far as I'm aware (in the UK at least) ALL Sony published games on PS3 thus far are First-Party - they've helped fund development of them all to at least some degree.
Also, Atari publishing Tekken 6 is still third-party, because Atari doesn't make the hardware it's playing on.
And yeah, I realised that after I hit "Post comment", that's why I was looking for the edit button!
