A French retailer going by the name of "la société SAKURA" has been selling some counterfeit merchandise based on Square Enix's Final Fantasy and Fullmetal Alchemist properties, it seems, and the company has decided to sue.

Kotaku brings up an interesting point on the matter...

[This] is all well and good! Square rightfully own the IP, and that pirated junk is no good for anybody. But you've got to wonder, why go after a single French retailer instead of the people manufacturing and distributing the goods in the first place?

Probably easier to make an example out of a retailer than going after the big boys. Same kind of mentality used in regards to digital pirating. I suppose SE just want to make some stand against it, even if it's relatively small scale.

Its easier to go after the retailer because well, There an actual company. The manufacturer is likely some back alley company in China which would be hard to sue, which is why many companies don't bother.
