When Starcraft II was announced last holiday season, every was excited. Blizzard is trying to get it released this year, but a possible delay has got the Activision Blizzard stocks on the downfall.
he cause of the concern is the company's up-coming release slate. Analysts agree that Activision has the best slate of games heading into the 2009 holiday season. The latest sequel to its blockbuster "Call of Duty" franchise -- dubbed "Modern Warfare 2" -- is widely expected to be the biggest selling game title of the year.
But the game business is volatile because publishers often have to shift release dates to allow developers time to finish. Activision has already shifted one title called "Singularity" out of this year and into 2010.
Now, there is a growing concern that an even bigger game -- "StarCraft 2" -- may be pushed out of this year, due to development delays.
"The beta testing for 'StarCraft' hasn't started yet. If it starts in August and takes 5-6 months, then launching the game this year is next to impossible," said Jess Lubert, video game analyst with Brean Murray.
