Nintendo has released their first quarter financial report for the 2009 fiscal year, representing the beginning of April to the end of June. The Japanese gaming giant reports an operating income of 40.40 billion yen, with net sales of 253.50 billion yen and a net income of 42.32 billion yen.
For operating income, this represents a 66.1% decrease from the first quarter in Fiscal Year 2008. Net sales saw a 40.1% decrease, and net income had a 60.6% decrease.
Nintendo attributes the decrease to a fewer amount of blockbuster titles; last year saw the release of Wii Fit and Mario Kart Wii at this time. Wii Sports Resort released in Japan a week before the quarter ended and was unable to have much impact. The other cause was the appreciation of the yen, which has inflicted many Japanese companies dealing in overseas business.
Nintendo also expects the USD to rise and the Euro to fall.
