According to Japanese sales tracker and Weekly Famitsu publisher Enterbrain, Nintendo's latest iteration of their best-selling handheld, the Nintendo DSi, has sold more than 3 million units in Japan, as of the last sales week which ended August 2nd. The DS's total sales, combining the DS, DS Lite, and DSi, is over 27 million units.

Comparatively, the PS2's lifetime sales in Japan are at 21.5 million, the PS3 at 3.2 million, and the PSP at 12.6 million as of July 26th according to Japanese tracker Media Create. Also according to Media Create, the DS Lite's sales total 17.6 million as of the 26th and according to the tracker, the DS reached the 27 million benchmark the week of the 26th. The Wii clocks in at 8.1 million units.

Enterbrain attributes the DSi's push to the three million mark to the release of Japan's best-selling game of the year Dragon Quest IX: Hoshizora no Mamoribito, and the introduction of the red-colored DSi on July 11th.
