In response to PS3 taking the top spot in terms of sales, David Dennis, a spokesman for Microsoft says that they expect it to be short term and expect that the PS3 will "be back down to third place soon like they've always been".

"We feel great about our numbers, and we expected Sony to have a great month," Xbox spokesman David Dennis said. "We expect it to be short-term and we expect them to be back down to third place soon like they've always been.

He said Xbox 360 is still the only console showing overall growth this year.

"Across all categories, the Xbox 360 platform contributed the most to industry unit and dollar sales as sales of 360 hardware, software and accessories comprised 32 percent of the month's revenues," NPD analyst Anita Frazier said in a statement.

Starting to look scared now Microsoft. How about you let your sales do the talking, as right now the constant attempts to tell yourselves you aren't gonna lose just comes accross as desperate.

I have to admit, the statement is very arrogant of them. But then, it was a PR statement, not a press release, so it might just be a matter of the PR guy talking without thinking.

Oh Snap! Man i dont think they are gonna lose anytime soon , almost all the guys in my town have an xbox.

Lose, win? Neither the PS3 or the 360 is going to "win" this generation. Maybe one'll get more sales than the other, yes, but the fanbase for each system is just too huge for any one console to win the console wars.

Or atleast, thats my opinion. Who knows whats gonna happen?

A 'town' is a small group of people. Your 'town' is next to obsolete when compared against the rest of the world.

If you're referring to "places" as in "competition", I'm pretty sure the PS2 *bleep*ed the living shit out of the XBOX last-gen. Of course, that's just my opinion. No need to get cocky, DD.

*Sigh* Half the time I think Microsoft just adds more fuel to the fire just to watch it burn.

That's one thing I really liked about Sony's stance on talking about other companies; I can't remember a time they shit-talked a rival company, many times outright refusing to give negative comments (Such as Xbox's Natal).

Then you have Microsoft saying these types of things all the time, giving away DLC for people to vote in a poll against competition (Forza vs Gran Turismo) as well as other tacky things.

The fact of the matter is this: Sony saw a huge bump in sales for nearly two months due to the price drop; meaning they've outsold the 360 (and even the Wii) for the first time in a while. For consumers (Whether you're a 360 or PS3 fanboy), this is great news. Competition drives the market. Both companies will be pushing themselves to keep your loyalty and try to win you over.

But really, every company seems to have a PR person that's specifically hired to talk trash.

Hey at least they're accepting the Wii's dominance in sales figures.

True, but I think they only did that to make it look worse for Sony. In many other situations they have said they don't even consider the Wii to be in competition with them since they were so "different."

Just goes to show Microsoft is beginning to get a little intimidated, because I've never heard Microsoft EVER being such dicks like this. You lead your competition for only 3 years and you think you're invincible. And they're not even ahead by as much as you'd think.

lol'd at the 'like always'. if i recall correctly, the ps2 beat the xbox last gen. but whatever, it's what companies do all the time, really. talking smack about their competition.

      Daweii Oct 25, 09
Sony were market leaders for 10 years with the Playstation 1 and 2 amassing a combined total for over 240 million units. 150 million of those were Playstation 2's. Microsofts memory is in the short term I mean 3 years or so and they aren't even the market leaders Nintendo are currently and you don't see them talking smack, though they don't have much to talk about other than sales. Maybe if the next Xbox is up to something and demolishes the competition like the Playstation 2 did, then maybe they can start talking shit like they are right now.

Oh get over yourselves. Sony does its share of posturing too, like every company on the planet.

Microsoft: "We're better than Sony! Look at our sales figures!"
Sony: "We're better than Microsoft! We offers a shinier gaming experience with BLU-RAAAY!"
Nintendo: "We care about hardcore gamers!"

And the fanboys fall for it every time. Suckahs.

      Red 9 Oct 26, 09
Sony may do it too, but it's always subtle. They never outright say "we're better and they suck." Microsoft on the other hand have no problem saying the competition sucks.

Haha, no way man. Their PR was trolling (to borrow from BANDITO) the DS and DSi a while back. They've done their share of posturing along the same caliber as shown in this article, but most fans dismissed / justified it one way or another. Hell, publishers and devs do it all the time.

        It's not personal, just business.

It may seem rude and arrogant but it's probably true. PS3 sales have gone up so much lately because of the ps3 slim mainly and also because of the price drop. Now that the slim is old news sales will inevitably go back down. Whilst the sales may end up still being higher than before they will most likely go back down to third place again by the end of the year/early next year.

Old news? It's been out a bit over a month. And Christmas is coming. That's Christians who wanna buy their kids anything their heart desires. The PS3 is now at a decent price. Will sell a bit faster than hotcakes. Not quite old news.
    • 0
      HisServant77 Oct 26, 09
The Slim is far from old news. I think people believe that the rise in sales is because since the price drop, everyone who wanted a PS3 went out and bought one.

But they fail to realize that some people STILL are taking time to save up the money for it. Some are STILL making room for it in their budgets. Some are STILL planning on getting it for someone for Christmas. So there's still the majority of buyers out there still interested in the PS3.

I love the like always part of that. TBH, and I'm possibly the only one, I hope Sony retaliate by bringing up the PS2 and getting all whiny about it and they just have a massive bitch off on the internet.

Screw honor, neither of them had it in the first place. If they're gonna be petty little *bleep*wits then they may as well be them in more entertaining ways IMO.

Does Microsoft even take into account that there console was out a few years before the PS3 so they should be way more ahead.

    • 2
      Shinobi_razor Oct 26, 09
Nintendo being first is a fluke and really should not be happening. it will be corrected next gen. everyone who bought a Wii will keep it and not upgrade to the next Nintendo console where as real gamers will get the PS4 and next Xbox like always.

        Shinikama Oct 26, 09
Do you have evidence to back that up? No, you don't. Sit and listen.
As much as I HATE the Wii, there is much it does correctly. It markets to EVERYONE, not just the average gamer. Motion controls + Mario = instant sales. Plus the low avaliability at the start, PLUS having the widest array of kid-friendly games, +PLUS+ being the most affordable... They didn't come across this formula by accident. By catering only to "real gamers", a company will miss out on far too many marketing opportunities.
Remember, I hate the Wii, but they DID have the best sales strategy.

          Shattered Oct 26, 09
Really, the Wii may go out to everyone, but it doesn't do that hot a job at it, unless we're talking about kids games. The Wii has only a handful of true hardcore games. It has tons of games that young kids like, not much else as far as I know. To me, the Wii is an obsolete console that shouldn't even be in the position it is.

          Shinobi_razor Oct 28, 09
i know they have a great sales strategy that caters to non gamers. that has nothing to do with the fact that they shouldnt be the top selling console.

and Wii DOES NOT cater to hardcore gamers. if you think that you are a massive dumbass. any games you could name that are games for "hardcore gamers" are either on 360/PS3 too or are a Poor Man's version of a game on 360/PS3. none of the 1st party games count as hardcore games. only one i can think of is Conduit and that game sucks.
