No Doubt, a band that more or less broke up in 2001 because Gwen Stefani wanted a solo career, is suing Activision over the use of their individual likenesses in the just-released Band Hero. The big point of conflict is the use of the avatars singing songs by other bands -- similar to the complaints Courtney Love made about dead husband Kurt Cobain in September.

...This of course mirrors a similar incident from Kurt Cobain murderer* Courtney Love, who in September threatened to “sue the shit” out of Activision for their use of Cobain’s likeness. Activision took the contract Love signed, rolled it up real tight and smacked her across the face with it to show that Activision was well within their rights.

I expect the same to happen here.

They broke up, but they've been back together for more than a year now and have recently toured with Paramore + Alot of other bands, also they have a album coming out next year, it's nice to know before you say things in your article.

Tbh i'd love for this to go through, i'd be happy to see Activision lose some money because for some reason Guitar Hero still sells well even though it's shite compared to Rock Band.

Not to be an ass, but shouldn't you know your subject matter if you're going to be writing an informative piece on it?

Wow. Activision can't cut a break. Good. I hope everyone sues their asses and buries them in the ground for good. All these shitty games coming out are really getting under my skin. They offer very little advancement in the series and seem to somehow garner all the unwary consumers to BUY BUY BUY!!

It was probably in the contract that they could be used by songs from other bands.

Why do these bastards sue? I mean seriously, if I were a singer or in a band and somehow I end up finding out that I'm in a video game, I'd shit bricks man. I'd find it amazing and an honor, unless they made me look bad. Even then, I wouldn't sue, I'd just give them a call or two and tell them to fix me up.
