Electronic Theatre reports on the success of Assassin's Creed II at retail, with Ubisoft's internal estimations setting it at 32% above the original title for first week sales.

Ubisoft has today announced a record first week sales performance for its Assassin’s Creed II videogame, with 1.6 million units sold through worldwide according to internal estimates. This represents 32% growth over the first week sales of the hugely successful original Assassin’s Creed. Launched in November 2007, Assassin’s Creed remains the fastest selling new videogame intellectual property ever in the US.

    Not a surprise. Usually sequels sell better. The better question is this: if there is a 3rd game, will that sell as good?

    I'd imagine it would, so long as it doesn't coincide with too many other big releases (L4D2 and RE:DC came out on the same day as ACII).

      Yeah I hated that. I went to pick up L4D 2 and the queue was like twice as long thanks to AC2 aswell So I just picked it up from HMV.
