What was once considered a male only market of pre-pubescent boys, some serious number crunching has revealed an eye opening look at modern gamers. With Wii Sportsbecoming the best selling video game of all time and the average gamer age rising to 32, it's clear that this new decade of gaming is filled with all kinds of surprises.

This attractively designed chart was in fact a compilation of research from Nintendo, VGchartz, Engadget, etc. so you can rest assured the data isn't biased to support one company.

Most interesting one to me is that there's more gamers over 50 than there are under 18.

I just liked the good statistics for the Wii. I hope most of those girls play more than just Harvest Moon and Animal Crossing though and be more cool like some of our Neoseeker ladies.

the problem with this data is that it counts wii-owners as gamers.

Mhmm. I wouldn't really pay any attention to too much. Lol at how much the DS pwns the PSP but then you also have to laugh at how the 360's fail rate is over double the PS3 and almost ten times as likely as the Wii's.

Yeah that's exactly what I thought. If you took away the Wii and DS, the percent would go down to like 5%.

I think folks need to remember that there was a time where being in your thirties and playing on the computer was the home of very few, and then most of the people playing were way old. It's only thanks to the consoles of today that people claim it's male oriented.

It helps that the market finally discovered girls can game too. =/
