The NPD Group has released their hardware and software numbers for the month of January 2010, representing sales for the United States for the four week period of January 3 to January 30.

Headlines:
Mass Effect 2 gets more than a half million in first week sales
Industry trending downwards again

Hardware: $353.7 million (-21%)
Software: $597.9 million (-12%)
Accessories: $217 million (+2%)

      Well, some people must care, because this article is on almost every game site.

      Most people are surprised that Army of Two was in the top 10 while Bayonetta and MAG were not, also the decline of hardware sales for all the console makers compared to last year is also of some importance.

    I always find these things interesting to read.

    Shocked that NSMBWii actually beat Mass Effect 2. I thought ME2 would be the most selling game. I even bought a copy! =(

      Mass Effect 2 didn't have a chance to catch up to NSMB, because the game was only on shelves for four days before NPD's January report went out. Had the games been released closer together, I believe ME2 would have dominated the charts.

      Not to mention, in those four days ME2 sold over half a million copies for the 360 alone.
