Media Molecule became famous when the released LittleBigPlanet, a highly popular game on the PS3. At the time they were only a third party studio, but now they have been officially bought by Sony and have become a first party studio. They will join the ranks of other big first party studios such as Santa Monica Studios, Naughty Dog, Insomniac Games and Guerrilla Games.

Sony are apparently up for a little game of finders keepers; Media Molecule made their big debut with the charming LittleBigPlanet, and now they’ve been bought up by the PlayStation family. LBP was a huge exclusive for the PlayStation 3, receiving critical acclaim for its massive steps towards user-generated content, so this shouldn’t really be a surprise.

Ever noticed how all the first party devs output some of the best games...? I know the reason they are first party is because of their quality, but all of those devs have set the bar higher for upcoming developers with their AAA games.

They got it good. And because they're first party, they get extra support from Sony prob, too.

Stuido. xD Fixing it now. The LBP guys are quite creative, I'm surely going to watch out for their next project.

Awesome. I feel bad for everyone else but exclusives tend to turn out better, and MM can make some really awesome stuff. Awesome.

I thought they were first party to begin with; Sony pretty much made Sackboy their unofficial mascot at a lot of conferences.

Good for them, let's hope Sony treats them good.

They were kind of second party at that point, they had an allegiance to Sony but could have gone elsewhere if they pleased. They are kinda like Insomniac in that regard, speaking of Insomniac maybe they have been offered a buy out from Sony and rejected it, but the amount of world class games they have made since Playstation 1 days I would have thought Sony would have secured them years/decades ago.

I think though, because of Insomniac's long standing loyalty, they've never felt a need to do that. MM are rather new (very new by comparison) and I'm sure Msoft and Ninty have been sniffing around, so Sony decided to just secure them in whilst they could.

Not to mention Media Molecule would be a cheaper buy, with only a small team and only one major game under their belt.
