In a recent interview with Microsoft's Peter Moore, his reactions to the PS3 price cut was that there was no actual price cut and that Sony were simply adding more value at the same prices.
However unlike Nintendo's George Harrison, he has reserved judgement on whether this latest move by Sony will backfire on them or really increase sales on them, saying that it all depends on the consumers.
Microsoft's Peter Moore has told GamesIndustry.biz that he doesn't consider Sony's recent PS3 discount a price cut at all - but rather a move to offer added value for the same price.
Sony dropped the price of the 60GB model on Monday to USD 499, while revealing a new SKU with an 80GB hard-drive and copy of Motorstorm for USD 599
"Interestingly, I didn't see a price cut, and I must have been reading the wrong thing. It's still USD 499 and USD 599," Moore told GamesIndustry.biz in an interview.

Sony are actually pretty damn smart, because the sale has been working too. You can bet if they released the 60gb and 80gb versions at the very start, it probably wouldn't have changed sales. But now they've gone and fooled everyone into thinking they've made huge price drops for us.
For once I have to say GG Sony.
