Index Holdings, the parent company of Atlus, has announced today they they have plans to merge the Shin Megami Tensei developer into the mothership alongwith mobile developer Index Corporation for the better use of management resources and the strengthening of the companies' values. If the merger is approved in a board meeting scheduled for today, the merger will go into effect on October 1st, where Atlus will cease to exist as a separate company.

Currently announced games, such as PS3/360 title Catherine, will continue to use the Atlus label, but the future of the brand is uncertain.

...Ahem, I seriously hope that Index won't *bleep* up Atlus' rhythm when it comes to games, If they do and pull a Square-Enix, I will be so mad.

Seconded on both counts. >__> Atlus's one of those companies who has consistently delivered rather unique pieces. I'd be sad to see that disappear.
