Sony announce that the sales of the Playstation 3 has increased during this month, due to the "extremely wise decision" of dropping the price of the PS3.

PlayStation fans: feel free to throw up your arms in unanimous rejoicing. Today, Sony Computer Entertainment America announced in a press release that PS3 sales have increased by more than 135% at the company's top five retailers. It looks like the price drop to $499 was an extremely wise decision.

"The new price of the 60 GB PS3, coupled with our very strong software showing from E3, is certainly paying dividends in terms of impressive sales across the board at retail," said Jack Tretton, CEO of SCEA, "This jump in sales bodes very well for us heading into the fall as we launch an impressive arsenal of hardware and software, leading off with the new 80 GB PS3 in August along with the unveiling of highly anticipated games such as Lair and Warhawk."

Furthermore, the press release stated that the PlayStation brand continues to exhibit growth in North America, with total sales of $393 million this June, an increase of 21% over June 2006.

I hope so too. That would be smart if they did. They're already the richest company in comparison to MS and Nintendo so why not, eh?
