Black Ops has only been released that its success surpasses many estimations. This is certainly the reason why an old rumor comes back: players will be charged for playing Call of Duty Multiplayer mode. Activision declares a new time that it is not possible.

Like every day, people try to exist using CoD franchise to create a sort of buzz. Today it’s Wedbush analyst Michael Pachter turns to open the Pandora box about Call of Duty Multiplayer supposed-incoming-charges. It provoks the public intervention of Activision Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg in order to precise that CoD won’t charge people to play online.

Activision, this is the first toward a long way in getting respect back for your company. I am proud that you finally do something the customers want and not what you want. Great day for the video game industry.

Not really. Them saying "We're not going to be unforgivable ass-holes, but we'll still release the same game every year, have a crap-load of DLC and pre-order bonuses and offer nothing that might further the industry in any way." isn't a great day, it's an average day. It's like someone saying "I'm not going to rape children but I'm still going to kill them, yay me."

Reminds me of George Bush Sr saying "Read my lips, no new taxes" then later raising taxes.

The experience you have out of the box, connecting with the online community to play Call of Duty is absolutely integral to the experience and we’ll never charge for that.

It’s not going to be something we’ll attempt to monetise; it’s part of the package.
Unless it's a map pack. Then we'll go ahead and charge you $15 for it, the same price as a completely whole game on the Xbox Live Arcade.

I highly doubt that. And if they don't, it'll be because they don't need to since they're capable of extorting enough money through shit like overpriced map packs.

It's because of idiots like Activision that we're seeing an oversaturation of FPSs in this style in the gaming market.

Re-releasing the same thing every year, and having people mindlessly eat it up in massive hordes, will do nothing more than destroy the gaming market as we know it.
