With people generally buying Magazines for the Demo's, the Official XBOX Magazine is one of those bought, not for the articles, but for the Demo's. Whilst the articles themselves are good, they can usually found in advance FOR FREE on the internet thanks to a clever invention, known as the Scanner.

The OXM have realised that it isn't the content within the magazine that is always wanted, but the actual demo, and for that reason, in the September 2007's issue of the magazine, Francesca Reyes' letter from the editor reveals what exactly is their plans:

Sometime late this month (July) we're kicking off a project on Xbox Live Marketplace called OXM Digital... Think of it as a digital digest of our mag, but with lots of exclusive interactive content, including gamer pics, themes, videos, galleries... stuff we can't do in print.

Not forgotteting that OXM Digital will contain exclusive demos for various games, players that want to play these demo's will be forced to get the "digital digest" of the magazine. Now that doesn't sound too bad... does it? Well there is a cost related to getting the demo's and other extras is 200 Microsoft Points (otherwise known as $2.50).

For those that would rather get the Magazine, aren't going to be left out either, fortunately for you, they will continue to provide the demo on disc as well as some other content, however the content available on the disc (OXM) will differ slightly from that on the Market Place (OXMD).

"Anyway, glad to hear most of you guys are optimistic about this. Yes, we'll have exclusive demos attached to OXMD (whether they or timed or not will be sorted out on a case-by-case basis, but odds are they'll be timed exclusives just as they've been on the OXM disc), but we're actually pretty excited about the "magazine" content as well. It's got embedded HD video on every page (in HD), themes and gamer pics for download, etc."

This could be totally awesome if they pull it off right! Hopefully we'll get enough content worth the 200 points.

Now this is a clever move and something OXM probably should have done earlier. The whole principle of the idea is excellent, only thing I can counter with is the fact that all the demos are released on the Marketplace for free aren't they? So unless OXM bring exclusive demo's first (let me know if they do) I see a rather big flaw in the idea.
