The Independent Game Developers' Association (TIGA) has called on the Scottish government to set up a fund in a bid to improve gaming business.

The proposed fund would mean developers had access to up to £100,000 of funding, and help the creation of intellectual property. It would, according to proponents, help to boost Scotland's standing in the global industry as a centre for game development.

According to TIGA, the country is losing out due to decisions by the UK's coalition government over tax relief, and that jobs have been going overseas as a result. TIGA's chief executive, Richard Wilson, said that the coalition was 'failing to invest in the Scottish and UK game development sector', but that it was an opportunity for the Scottish government to show their support for the games industry.

A spokeswoman for the Scottish government said they would 'continue to put pressure on the UK government' over tax breaks, and that letting Scotland control these taxes would ensure the country could 'support all our key industries'.

'A UK Treasury spokeswoman said the government was committed to making the UK "the best place to start, finance and grow a business" and making it an attractive location for innovative industries.'
