What appears to be a devious attempt at damage control, Gamespot issued a statement in a form of a send-off to former Gamespot senior editor, Jeff Gerstmann and denied advertiser pressure by Eidos over Kane and Lynch review played a significant role in his firing. Despite the fact that the Kane and Lynch review was edited, the video review was taken down, and Kane and Lynch ads suddenly disappeared from GameSpot.

After nearly 11 years of news, reviews, and previews, editorial director's tenure ends; GameSpot editors address controversy surrounding his departure

I was just in a Gamespot this morning talking with one of my friends who happens to work there and he said that Gerstmann was fired because of pressure from Eidos. Either Gamespot's main website is making things up or they haven't told all their employees that Eidos had nothing to do with his termination.

Clearly it's someone else who needs to be fired in CNET/Gamespot. I mean there is no way they can justify they are exposed and here they are lying again. How much more are they going to put the hurt on themselves?

I had a feeling that Eidos had no part in this whatsoever...and that'll make the '1.0' reviewers for K&L looks stupid if they truly didn't, but GameSpot aren't believable here.

I bet they're probably saying this more or less as an attempt to save their hides even though they know they've been exposed. The Gamespot fanboys will probably always take what CNET says, regardless of the facts that prove to the contrary, and that's the kind of loyalty they're hoping to retain.

Did anyone really expect them to admit it? I sure didn't. A game review site that is willing to fire an employee over being harshly honest in a review of a game that just happens to be made by a company that is in bed with said site is fully willing to deny the whole thing.

I would have gained back even an ounce of respect for them if they at least admitted their fault and agree to analyze their code of integrity and other policies. But no. They would rather cover it up, lie and not make a change.

I suppose when you're in business for so long that's just a common response to a scandal, cover it up as best you can and don't admit anything until you absolutely have to.

How they can come out and say that the main reason he was fired wasn't because of the review when everyone know this would not be the case and if it was anything to bad im sure they would actually state what it was -_-
