Joystiq has scored an exclusive interview with former Gamespot editorial director Jeff Gertsmann about losing his job at Gamespot and his review of Kane & Lynch.

While he's holding his silence on the specifics behind his firing due to alleged legal reasons, he still stands behind his review of the game, however controversial it may be.

"Losing a job you've held for over 11 years in an abrupt manner is shocking, yes."

While the above quote should perhaps win Jeff Gerstmann the 'understatement of the year' award, the former Gamespot editorial director is still staying silent about the specifics surrounding his recent firing (citing the previously mentioned "legal reasons," among others). He has, however, told Joystiq that he still stands behind his controversial review of Kane & Lynch.

Im confused he said he saw both endings of the game does that mean he played both and saw the endings or he just saw the endings only.

Hmm game development is not a bad choice, but i was right he does have contacts that can land him a job. At least he's not worried about being fired as much, cause now he has time to think and a game developer sound better than a reviewer to me in terms of a job.

Good god, just come out with it Jeff, or GameSpot, this has gone on long enough. You're fired ffs, it won't matter to tell the truth now.

Legal reasons meaning there was something in his contract that prohibited him from saying something about issues like these. Yes, he may have severed his ties with Gamespot, that doesn't mean he can't get sued.

You're right, didn't think about that. Still, I'd like to know the truth...if they try to keep things low, GameSpot will surely be punished with even more members leaving.

I dont blame him for sticking up for his view on the product. He has the right to put what he likes and it is a massive shame that he has to be silent about why he was sacked though im sure he probably has told some people.
