It's the news that we have all been waiting for, and now we have it. Courtesy of ThreeSpeech for making us aware of the interview, and courtesy of ShackNews for the interview with the PSN Director of Operations, Eric Lempel.

When asked by ShackNews if an ingame XMB is possible in the near future his answer was:

We are looking at a number of enhancements related to accessing some of the XMB features during gameplay, including messaging your friends. While there's no time line to announce at this point, we've heard loud and clear from consumers that in-game XMB access is one of the most requested PS3 enhancements.

I thought Devs are the one who needs to implement the feature in games, and that the PS3 can already support this.
At least thats what some one said here. I mean that bowling games has In game XMB that you can use your own music in games.

A year after its release, a feature so simple to implement (according to Sony) is still being talked about, rather than actually enforced? Ah well. At least we have bluray.

Why do people keep talking about devs implementing 'this feature' in games? We're talking about the XMB itself, not unlike the XBOX dashboard. This has nothing to do with the game developers. Developers could implement certain pieces of what is available through the XMB, yes, but why should they have to? It should be done internally and Sony has been sleeping on this for longer than a year, because they should have had it in the plans before the system even came out.

I heard all this information about it, but never a date, i mean it has to be out soon, sick of hearing information about it, it was supposed to be out when 2.0 came out, now there looking into it because its what most people want. We want the feature now, not next year. Xbox got theres when it first came out, why should we be any different? All we get is switch system off, controller off quit game etc...
