After a week's hiatus, we finally get Media Create's software rankings, along with hardware and software numbers for the week preceding New Year's Day. Contrary to the preceding week's
Nintendo domination, games from a system not owned by Nintendo broke into the top ten. Hardware wise, it's still the same old, with the DS, PSP and Wii selling in the six figure range, while the PS3 ranges around 55k.
This week's top seller is the new Super Robot Taisen game,
Super Robot Taisen OG Gaiden, for the PS2, selling 197k copies. In second is the game with our favorite new peripheral,
Wii Fit, getting through the door 135k copies. Rounding out the top five are
Mario Party DS (NDS - 131k),
Final Fantasy IV (NDS - 126k), and
Star Ocean: First Departure (PSP - 105k).
Hardware-wise, everything slowed down for the major players, aside from the PS2:

It's the first time in a while that a non-Nintendo console game is leading the pack in sales, but all things considered, Nintendo still did pretty well in this pre-New Year's week. Wii Fit (#2) is still pushing Wiis, which in turn are pushing out the door other Wii games, most notably Wii Sports (#6) and Super Mario Galaxy (#10). DS Lites are also still selling, and the Nintendo-published games of Mario Party DS (#3) and Super Mario Galaxy are showing good legs.
Sony games have finally broken into the top ten after last week's Nintendo domination, although it was by the strength of third party games. More importantly, software also went out the door with the high PSP sales, with 4 games charting in the top fifty: Star Ocean: The First Departure (#5), Haruhi Suzumiya's Promise (#7), Monster Hunter Portable 2nd (#18), and Hot Shots Golf Portable 2 (#45) The PS3's units are staying rather stationary, but there are also more games charting right now in the top fifty, including Call of Duty 4 (#15), and Gran Turismo 5 Prologue (#26).
The 360 finally makes a dent in the top fifty again, with it's version of Call of Duty 4 (#22).
For third parties, the winners are Banpresto, Square Enix, Namco Bandai and Level 5. Banpresto, publisher and developer of the Super Robot Taisen series, are responsible for this week's #1, Super Robot Taisen Original Generations Gaiden. Square Enix is responsible for Final Fantasy IV DS (#4), the newly released remake, Star Ocean: First Departure, and the latest DS million-seller, Dragon Quest IV DS (#9). Namco Bandai also manages to break into the top ten with a PSP game, capitalizing on the large merchandise-eating fanbase of Haruhi Suzumiya. Level 5 is still showing consistent sales for its two Professor Layton games, more notably the second game, Professor Layton and Pandora's Box (#8).
