From 2006-2007, only Mature-rated games saw a sales increase - everything else dropped. Course, if you realize the amount of pet-themed games released in this period could fill a couple gymnasiums, and the awesomeness of such titles as Call of Duty 4, Halo 3, etc, the sense in it all becomes distinctly more clear.

Average revenue for handheld games saw a dramatic drop per ESRB rating across the board, particularly in the M-rated category. With a push for a younger demographic on the PSP, there simply wasn’t much of a market for M-rated games on handhelds last year. However, in spite of this, estimates see the handheld market having a 16% increase in software revenue compared with a 38% increase in the console world.

So? Games aren't good because of their ratings.

No, but it's good that marketing nonsense won't be so much of a factor when companies decide what to put in or censor from their games, which will make for better games.

In your summary it says that mature saw an increase, but in the actual story it says that sales dropped?

"..only Mature rated games saw an increase of average revenue from 2006 to 2007. Everyone, E10+ and Teen all saw a drop in average revenue in 2007.."
