Media Create: Japanese Sales: 03/24/08 - 03/30/08: Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G Rocks the Charts

As previously reported, the PSP is the top hardware-seller this week, mainly on the back of one surefire million-seller: Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G. The other consoles, with no major new releases this week, all take a step back, and allow the PSP into the limelight.

The top seller is Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G for the PSP, selling 880k units. The second best was last week's #1, Pokemon Ranger: Batonnage for the DS, selling 106k units. Rounding out the top five are Mobile Suit Gundam 00 (NDS - 49k), Wii Fit (WII - 42k) and Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion: Lost Colors (PSP - 34k).

On the hardware side, as the PSP got one of its top releases, it naturally skyrocketed:
This Week - Last Week: +/-
PSP: 129,986 - 59,833: +70,053
NDS: 58,916 - 65,055: -6,139
WII: 48,785 - 62,404: -13,619
PS3: 11,206 - 12,874: -1,668
PS2: 10,296 - 9,990: +306
360: 1,547 - 1,407: +140

With the Monster Hunter series one of the most popular game series on the PSP in Japan, it's no surprise that Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G sold an incredible amount in its first week, and of course, that also spurred on PSP sales.

While without the large impact as MHP2G and the PSP, Nintendo is also holding steady, with 32 of the top 50 on either the DS or the Wii. There are also a couple 360 games on the top 50, Dark Sector and the console's version of Armored Core for Answer.

Between this week and last week, there were a bevy of new releases that received notable sales: enough to land them in the top ten sellers of their respective release weeks:

How the hell is Wii Sports 12? You can't buy it as an individual game and I don't see how it's more popular than some other games! :I

Wii Sports is not bundled with the Wii in Japan. It is available as an individual game over there.
