Looks like the rumour isn't true about Nintendo upgrading the DS. Speaking in response to Enterbrain's chief Hirokazu Hamamura's comments about having "insider info" on the redesign, Nintendo Japan's head of PR flat-out denied it:

"We cannot comment on the specifics of what will be announced at E3, but at the very least there won't be anything like what Mr. Hamamura suggested, so would like to clearly deny this. We're having a hard time understanding what kind of evidence [Mr. Hamamura] had for saying this."

Nintendo's specifically worded denial would appear to have thrown cold water on Hamamura's prediction, but given the present success of the DS Lite around the world, it is no real surprise.

I thought the design looked abit quirky anyway, it didn't have a DS look about it. It looked too much like two psps' stuck together with some sort of connection to flip.

Not really. The screens are bigger, but then the size would be larger. And that'll suck, DS has such 'sleekness.'

I disagree it has a next gen feel to handhelds. I prefer that one over the current one any day.

That looks to be a horrible design anyway.

Maybe they should add a third screen to it.

But then they'd have to call it 'TS.'

Yeh but it's an Elcheezo joke, it'll be cheezy. But yeh it would have to from the DS to TS. DS sounds much better.

That design sucks really besides having the double screen larger.

But I agree with some it's way to early for a redesign maybe later.
