In a recent interview with online magazine Develop, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata acknowledged the Microsoft 'Wiimote' rumours, but said his company isn't worried, more or less, they're just going to keep being Nintendo.

"I am also aware of the [Microsoft Wiimote] rumour and have seen a fake image made by a fan on the web which looks like a Wii Remote with the rumour that such a controller may be launched, However there is no way for us to comment on such speculations."

“All I can say today is, it is not that easy to develop software which leverages the characteristics of the Wii Remote. We are not concerned about what other companies may do but rather more concerned with presenting them with new ideas to our customers based on the prospect that our existing customers will surely get tired of the plays enabled by Wii Remote if we do not try to improve the experience. In other words, what matters to us is whether or not we can continue to constantly create and offer new surprises one after another.”

    Competition is always healthy.

That, and a lot of third parties have been butchering the controls. If MS can pay a bunch of companies to LEARN to do it well, the Wii can probably get some ports in the process.

    Probably good for everyone.

, it is not that easy to develop software which leverages the characteristics of the Wii Remote.

is that why there is a bunch of crappy 3rd party titles that looks like they were churned out in a couple of months?

Its only Infra red motion tracking ffs.

Yup thumb me down, you know its true.

Um, yes, that's why there is a bunch of crappy third party titles. Maybe you misread, but it says "it is not that easy", active word "NOT", suggesting that it is hard, suggesting that these 3rd parties had troubles.

So does this mean XBox is trying to make motion control their own thing? That's what they get for releasing a year before Nintendo, no great ideas to copy off of.

That'd be pretty sad if Microsoft was seriously making their own 'Wiimote' Copying ideas are just lame, especially when the image looks exactly the same with different buttons.

I don't see this as being lame for MS i see this as an opportunity. Listen both Sony and Nintendo has some sort of Motion control, while different is very enjoyable when used right. If MS can use this as well i see it helping them as well. Listen its not the first time companies copy off each other. PS2 had Dualshock and Xbox 1 implemented it as well.

360 has In-game messaging and Achievements and Sony is coming out with home that has in game XMB and Entitlements.

It just makes competition that much better.

Hell Volitions copied Rockstar's GTA and made SR which was really good. And im sure GTA4 added things that SR used as well. It just makes competition that much better and that benefits the gamers as well.

Yes, competition is great, but it's not a great competition if everyone is doing the exact same thing...

How is PS3 Sixaxis anything like the Wii-remote? And how is MS adding this doing the same as them? Maybe they are looking into other things that is different but competitive.

I hope Nintendo make a game called 'Gaylo' Jsut to pick fun at MS, and make everything really bad to annoy Bill Gates.

Bill gates wouldn't give a shit. The CEO of MS might though.

but I dont see how maknig a game really bad on their own console would effect MS.

Btw this is just an mock up by a fan.
