PSP outsells DS 2-1 in Japan in April.

Well it says it all, it finished up that the DS managed to sell 169,911 units where as the PSP managed to finish up at 380,867 units. Though in the whole entire market the Wii sold 5 times the amount of units compared to the PS3 in April.
TOKYO (Reuters) - Sony Corp's (6758.T: Quote, Profile, Research) PlayStation Portable (PSP) handheld game gear outsold Nintendo Co Ltd's (7974.OS: Quote, Profile, Research) DS portable player more than 2-to-1 in Japan in April, game magazine publisher Enterbrain said.

But in the console market, Nintendo sold five times as many Wii machines as Sony's PlayStation 3 (PS3) in the four weeks through April 27, an Enterbrain report dated Thursday showed.

PSP sales came to 380,867 units, beating DS sales of 169,911 units, as Capcom Co Ltd's (9697.T: Quote, Profile, Research) hunting action game "Monster Hunter Freedom 2G," designed for the PSP, was the top seller for the second straight month, the report said.

Nintendo sold 187,121 units of the Wii in the month, compared with 37,676 units of the PS3.

The Wii has been leading the PS3 in sales since their launches in late 2006 as its innovative and easy-to-play games attracted women and the elderly, expanding the overall gaming population.

Yeah, this is definitely because of Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G. But what I can't fathom is, how come so many people who haven't played Freedom or Freedom 2 (otherwise they'd have PSPs, right?) go for the next game in the portable series?

Yay Sony. I'm sure a lot of people already have a DS which might be why so many bought a PSP. But the DS also put up some good numbers as well still.

I've heard nothing but good things regarding the Monster Hunter series, so I'm not surprised that Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G is the cause of this. Hopefully the DS will sell more copies in the future.

Yes, that's the only reason PSP is outselling it. DSs have been mined to extinction.
