Any Wii owner would know only too well how few decent Wii games there actually are. I'm not taking a stab at the Wii here, but once you finish with the big-name games like Mario Galaxy, Twilight Princess, Metroid, Brawl, etc. there isn't much else to do or look forward to (unless you're really into the online modes on Brawl and Mario Kart).
And Nintendo isn't helping the matter with all these "secret announcements" and telling people to wait. Announce more games that your fans are interested in, or you're going to start losing people.
A little third-party support wouldn't go astray either. What's the Wii known for right now? - It's first-party games (with the same ol' characters, scenarios, etc. that we're all used to). Give us something new and different, plz!
There are also more than "a few" decent Wii games. There's also more than just a few on the way.
What's the Wii have, really? Zelda, Mario Galaxy, SSB:B, Resident Evil, Metroid, and Mario Kart?? The horizon certainly doesn't look too bright either, with their future seeming to consist of WiiFit and other horribly overpriced peripheral based games with little actual value to anyone but a very, very casual gamer.
Anyway, at this point I am far more interested to see a new franchise from Nintendo than a new version of an old franchise. The only exception is the mentioned Kid Icarus game, since its 3D rendition will basically be a new franchise. Everyone knows Nintendo will bring its "second tier" franchises to Wii, it is only a matter of time. However, the best Wii games are the ones that use the system's strengths and capabilities within new and original ideas that can't be done on another system, and trying to conform older series to this standard is far less interesting than fresh ideas. I'm particularly interested to see what Miyamoto has been working on since finishing Wii Fit last year.
On the other hand ... Nintendo's top games all come from Nintendo. They are all very similar, they all have the same ol' characters, and they are all first-party games. There's nothing surprising, or new (unless you could things like Wii Fit), or unique - It's all just "same old, same old", and fans will eventually get sick of it.
The same old truly is old.
like it matters what they do next. they're just going to take whatever good, or semi-good game franchise they already have and fag it out with the wiimote while everyone calls it groundbreaking.
everyone stand back while they ruin f-zero.
- Super Mario Galax... oh wait. That game was praised for it's accurate platforming controls, made better by the Wii Remote.
- The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princes... bummer, again! 99.9% of people preferred the Wii version over the Gamecube version because of the Wii Remote. The Wii controls turned out to be alot better than standard controls.
- Metroid Prime 3: Corrup... geez, whats going on? The Wii Remote sucks for FPSs, right? Wrong. Metroid 3's control setup, (made possible only by the Wii Remote) was praised for being alot BETTER than any dual-analog stick FPS control setup before it.
- Super Smash Bros Brawl... nah. While the Wii Remote controls weren't superior to standard controls, it played just as well.
So as you can see, in every case listed here, the Wii Remote was superior, or just as good, as traditional controls.
Mind listing any Nintendo franchises that Nintendo screwed up with the Wii remote?
Of course we all have our opinions, and tastes. But I don't allow myself to be feed by the nonsense claiming the Wii Mote is superior to standard controllers. Its an interesting and new way to play games, but not to base all your library on it. Thats why among the masses of games Nintendo has right now, only 8 games are possible great and must buy.
My problem is people like me who want a Wii can't get any cause of the idiots buying the console for only Wii sports, and then having to wait for more to be coming in. And believe me between Sereph working at gamestop, and me going to those stores where I am its like 90% of the people getting a Wii for that purpose. I would love to get those other games myself to finish the story, mind you I only played them for 2 and half hours each, but can't.
Metroid Prime 3, I'm gonna be frank and honest, was one of the worst games I have ever played in my life, control wise and game wise. Me being a big FPS fan, I can honestly say compared to a 360 controller or PC mouse, the Wii mote is a piece of shit for FPS games.
Really? I've been hearing the complete opposite. The people in the IGN forums, gametrailer forums, and 4chan /v/, most people kept saying how the gamecube version was so much superior to the wii version.
Really, it's all opinion, and I'm just posting my own views. But overall, I'm going to have to agree with FB (I can't believe I just said that) and BA.
I do agree that soon there should be an Animal Crossing coming up.
Brawl: Gamecube by far the superior control set-up, enough said.
Galaxy: Definitely better to have it than not to have it, they nailed it on the head for its simple use. Bravo.
Twilight Princess: Wii controls makes it better overall, but some bits were lacking. The Bow and Arrow aiming was fantastic, though the sword swiping was a little disappointing and tacked on.
Metroid Corruption: Awesome result, puts Red Steel to shame, and is my favourite FPS control method.
Mario Kart: Gamecube controller works best for most, but the Wii Wheel still works really well as an alternative control method, one which I use as my main one.
As a whole, in my opinion, for the quality games on the Wii, the controls are completely spot on which for me puts the games ahead of the rest. On the other hand, the third party games have done a shit job with the Wii controls, with nearly every one being lazily tacked on.
Oh, and as for the article itself, I can see a new Animal Crossing and F-Zero in the near future.
