Developer Cliff Bleszinski recently announced the downloadable content for the up and coming Gears of War 2 will be "multiplayer map focused." Lucky for all the eager Gears of War fans you won't have to wait months for DLC: it'll be available shortly after the game's initial release, sometime between November 16th and the month after, at this point. Don't expect a long wait to try out some additional new maps.

There's still no word on whether this time around the DLC will be free.

"X08 Toronto allowed invited gamers in the Greater Toronto Area (yes, the GTA) to participate in a showcase of upcoming Xbox 360 retail and Arcade releases. Gears of War 2 was a surprise showing with a multiplayer build from E3 2008. Everyone was on the edge of their seat. Jump in for a few choice comments from Cliff Bleszinski, perfect for those of your reading this in a library and unable to listen to the actual interview!"

I don't get it. If they're going to release it so soon after the game's released, why not just put it on the game disc and save time ?

I guess there's either enough of it that it won't fit on the disc for the initial release, or quite possibly to advertise after the game's out. If they keep pumping out DLC after the game has been released I'm sure the fans will keep downloading (possibly buying) their packages.

It's an inner group that's actually working on the DLC so as to keep the main group focused on the actual game itself. I wouldn't be surprised if it were maps from Gears 1 simply redone and put as DLC so it wouldn't take up that extra space.
