Used games being sold is causing a lot of debate within the industry. Dan DeMatteo, the chief executive officer of GameStop, recently partook in an interview with Victor Godinez of the Dallas Morning News to try and clear the air. The case being that used game sales are in fact good for the developers and publishers.

The three complaints addressed were immediate sell backs, the resales as second hand games and gamers knowing they can make back a decent amount of the money if they sell it quickly after purchase.

Dan DeMatteo is on a mission to prove these angry workers wrong. He'll be working on a report, hopefully with good enough statistics, to prove that the sales of used games are in fact good for the industry.

"DeMatteo seemed pretty frustrated about the growing rumblings from developers about used games," Godinez said. "And it sounds like GameStop is going to embark on an effort after the holidays to explain to game makers why the used market is good for them, including getting an outside research firm to vet these numbers."

I really don't see the problem with used games. I buy them, and it helps me save money when I'm on a tight budget or perhaps don't have enough money for the new one.

This is how I think this is going to go down, some big developer is going to try to implement the whole "get it properly and get free DLC or get it second hand and pay" only for there to be a big outcry, low sales and a massive surge in piracy. Said developer then refutes the practice and is an example to all other developers thinking of taking a similar route, and then the issue is dealt with.

How can sales of used games be good for the industry? I may buy some used games, but I only do that when a new copy of the game is not an option (i.e. Warhawk). Used games means less money for developers means less money going into the next project.

I just don't see how the game devs can complain about used games. You can buy and then sell as used anything else, why should games be any different.
