President and CEO of Activision, Mike Griffith, gave a keynote speech at CES making pretty big claims on video games and their place in the entertainment industry. Basically saying that it will own the industry. I can't deny that gaming has been on the steady rise for a little while now, and facts are music download sales are up because of music games, plus the Wii getting grandma to game... he might be onto something here.

Mr Griffith said social gaming, more interactivity and better technology would help gaming dominate the entertainment landscape in future.

He said: "Movies, recorded music and TV - these are all stagnating or contracting entertainment sectors."

40% growth

He quoted US market statistics which showed that between 2003 and 2007 sales of movie tickets fell by 6%; the number of hours of TV watched dropped by 6%, sales of recorded music slumped 12% and purchases of DVDs remained flat.

Over the same four-year period, said Mr Griffith, the video game industry grew by 40%.

"Video games are poised to eclipse all other forms of entertainment in the decade ahead," he said.

Most of this may be due to pirating. It's easy to pirate movies, TV Shows, and music but it's hard to do it with video games. I'm not saying you can't pirate games but it becomes hard to do. We all know music is easy to pirate. I see movies come up on the Internet while they are still in the theaters. Hell, sometimes I see them before they come even out in theaters. And not done with a camcorder but the actual movie. Finally, TV shows can just be recorded with a capture card of some kind. Video games, especially console video games, are a lot trickier. I don't know the details exactly but that is just my opinion.

yeah it is. ive looked into it before and its really complicated. there are several steps. now its easy to copy a PSX game and play it on PSP, but thats because its being played off a memory card and it has PSX emulator program stuff put in with the game. but for games on disc where you have to put it on another disc, it gets really tricky, PLUS you cant play a copied disc without modding your system.
