Was Jack Thompson asleep when his law license was taken away? He mustn't have been paying much attention to his case, because in a recent interview with 411manie Thompson claimed that the only reason he was disbarred was because he appeared on 60 Minutes. Seriously, Jack? Seriously?

Go to the source for the full interview. Yep, it's as bizarre as most ofof Jack's other interviews.

411: The media have been quick to label your actions as "moral crusades". To what extent do you see a connection between your moral crusades against pop-culture, and the political crusades against communism instigated by Senator Joseph McCarthy 1947-57. How do you react to accusations of 'scare-mongering?

Jack Thompson:
I did my honors thesis in college on the McCarthy error. Big difference. He made stuff up, I have facts. There are literally thousands of scientific studies that prove certain entertainment materials -- porn and violence -- can be harmful to minors. I didn't make that up. I am not on a crusade. I believe in public safety, and I have spent countless hours with families whose loved ones are in the ground at the hands of a gamer who trained on a killing game to kill them. That changes your life. It motivates you. You know, if you're a liberal on a "crusade" you're simply a community organizer or a concerned social activist. But you find someone who is a Christian who acts on his social conscience, and he's on a religious jihad or some kind of nut. I was trained as a lawyer to use the law. That is what I do. It drives the other side crazy, that I might actually know what I am doing. If I had not been effective, you wouldn't be interviewing me, now would you? These people are so afraid, they have yanked my law license because I appeared on 60 Minutes. Sounds to me like they're the ones that are paranoid. Some real free speechers, aren't they?

Seriously, each time this guy comes up with bullshit reasons like this, I just get angrier at him.
"411: If you have kids, what are the specific rules you give to them about gaming?

    Jack Thompson:
My son is not allowed to play age inappropriate games that glorify violence and objectify women. He agrees with me."
    Lol.

And what's wrong with that? I think a parent who does not let his/her kid play age inappropriate games, is actually being a parent and not letting their 8 year old kid play GOW or Halo or other Rated M games.

Jack, you're a *bleep*ing imbecile. That's why you lost your law license.

He's actually generally reasonable in this one, but his goal to buy shares in Take Two in order to bring it down is just going way too far.

There are some points like the movie and games one I disagree with, but I think it's more rational than usual.

Oh boy he just loves the spotlight, the narcisstic and vain moron ¬_¬

    quote Jack
You do that and you the clerk gets fired and the store manager gets fired. It's freaking easy. Instead, all of the retailers are selling, with no age restriction and no age verification all games to anyone of any age via Internet sales. We're closing that loophole in Utah, and that law we are going to pass there is going to spread like wildfire.
Yes because it IS that easy Jack, do you, yourself work in the retail industry? I'm guessing no because first if someone comes to you with an allegation that someone is selling something they shouldn't to underage teens then you must provide evidence and that would mean a week to several months of discreet investigation or at least a talk with the culprit and get them to confess. Only other way is if CCTV was centred on the till point, which most stores have these days.

Not only that but it would also mean going without a manager and one less staff employee for as long as it takes to get new ones in...so yes real easy

I just love the fact he mentions that he different because he has "facts" and that Mcarthy made his stuff up...No, Jack, you are twisting the facts and using them to fund your crusade.

lastly he states he has having too much fun doing what he does...which is what exactly, pissing off the gaming population, wasting court time and gaming companies' time as well as brainwash people with twisted facts...yup pretty much the same as your average spammer/trouble maker on forums then...Good Going there Jack, really showing how to resolve problems by not being the bigger man and acting in a mature and professional manner ¬_¬

Don't get me wrong Jack, the ideal you are fighting are not wrong...it's the way you are going about it. Military use professionally designed simulations that members of the public don't use or even get their hands on. They don't use the likes of Manhunt 2 or GTA. The reason why the kids that caused the many massacres are good at what they are doing is because of what happened in their childhood, poor parenting and generally most of the time bullying.

In fact I wished Jack read comments such as this because I would personally ask him to link these sources to the studies made about games making your behaviour change. True when playing games I get determined and sometimes angry but only with myself and mostly because I did something stupid like go left instead of right or jumped when I should have ducked. I have watched many horror movies, I have delved deep into criminal minds, watched many detective programs and documentaries, I have played gruesome video games and read many books...yet not once have I gone and killed a fellow human or even an animal...except insects that decide to annoy me.

I know I am 1 in a number of millions but jesus christ, jack...you are fighting a neverending and forever losing battle and purely for the wrong reason

Yeah, that tends to happen when people provoke me and prod me to use my Rant-A-Lot novel skills

Jackie boy seems to be a good one of doing so even though I have not met him nor do I ever want too

Resorting to censoring seems to be quite a hobby for religious-zealot people like Thompson. He does say some pretty reasonable stuff that I'll give him the benefit of the doubt, such as:

    quote
I have facts. There are literally thousands of scientific studies that prove certain entertainment materials -- porn and violence -- can be harmful to minors
I have rarely found a research that concludes this...usually quite the contrary, but ok then, I can see why it's easy to believe that.

    quote
I am not on a crusade. I believe in public safety, and I have spent countless hours with families whose loved ones are in the ground at the hands of a gamer who trained on a killing game to kill them.
He literally just turns a whole 180 and goes with his sensationalist bullshit all of a sudden. Then after that I couldn't keep reading because after that comment, whatever other "facts" that he has is surely followed by more sensationalism.

Penn and Teller would have a Field *bleep*ing day with this guy. Bringing the government to censor one more thing (again with no basis for fact) is exactly what we need.

    quote Jack Thompson
It's a double whammy, which is why gamers who massacre (there have been some, want a list?) are very good at what they do.
No doubt. That's like saying, "Kids shouldn't be allowed to play hide-and-go-seek, because there are some people who have played it that go on killing sprees."

    What does it prove?

    Nothing.

Sometimes, Thompson will pop up in the news when he actively goes after games. But articles like these are turning the tables by actively going after Thompson, feeding him attention without any effort on his part. In the end, that's what he wants.

If we all truly want this man to go dig himself a hole and disappear, then articles/interviews like these should be avoided. Instead, even after he's been disgraced, video game media and blog sites seek him out to get more attention and hits... and the rest of the gaming community takes the bait.

I'm almost completely sure I read that he lost his Law License because he has a penis for a head, and it was distracting to everyone in the courtroom.

Ah...Yet another intelligent addition to the internet. Damn, I'm good.

You know, the sad thing is that Gamers give this guy more attention than the Media.

I was enjoying the lull in Jack Thompson articles for a while Guess it's over

Yes it's over. Jack is like a rat. Just when you think it's gone he pokes out his head. He is a sick man that should be in a psychiatric hospital. I'm not joking.
