IGN recently got the chance to sit down with the director behind the latest entry in the Metroid franchise. Yoshio Sakamoto has worked on Super Metroid, Metroid Fusion, the GBA Metroid, and the original Metroid game which started it all. He discusses how the cooperative project with Team Ninja came to be as well as other details regarding the game. He states that the game will be heavily intensive on plot and action along with the character development of Samus Aran. It is set to take place between Super Metroid and Metroid Fusion and Sakamoto is touting it to be "the ultimate Metroid experience."
He also dropped hints regarding the confusion behind the gameplay perspective that's been boggling everybody's minds since the trailer was revealed. Oh, and he also mentions Metroid Dread. Read the interview to find out more.
IGN: Metroid: Other M was a huge surprise for us at E3 2009 and we're really excited for it. We're wondering how the partnership with Team Ninja came about.
Yoshio Sakamoto: I've been working on Metroid games for quite awhile, but in 2006, having seen the Wii, its capabilities and the features available through it, I wanted to challenge myself to see what I could produce for that particular system and it was at that point that I started mulling other concepts. My team and myself have had experience working on Metroid game, but it's all been in the handheld realm and it's all been in 2D, so we lacked both the experience and the manpower to create a 3D Metroid experience. It was at that time that I realized I needed to find a partner help me realize my concept.

damn, well as long as I get to see some backstory on samus and more detail on her parents, her training with the chozos and everything else.
Its great that she's finally becoming a real fleshed out character.
Farking fanboy...in fact the whole site is biased!
Anyway:
the control for Metroid Other M will be using the Wii remote again. Look at the attack Samus did, she grab one of the monsters by the tail and swinged it, which means you'll have to use the remote and swing your arms.
I do think the 2d and 3d will auto switch, it can't be human controlled.
I like this part:
"IGN: When you beat the original Metroid, there's a warning of 'another Metroid.' Is that what 'Other M' refers to in the title of the Wii game?
Yoshio Sakamoto: The NES Metroid? I don't remember. "
Anyone read the Metriod manga series online!? It was a great manga, it showed all the back story of Samus. I don't know if the comic has been updated by now, but I do hope they get some story off the manga.
