Ever since its unveiling, people have been concerned about just how Metroid: Other M will play out. Speaking with Reggie Fils-Aime, Gamespot got him to discuss the development behind the game. He acknowledged the importance of the franchise to Nintendo and stated that they needed to revitalize it once again. Why? Because Nintendo feels that they can push the sales more for such a significant franchise.
That being said, after Retro Studio's departure with Metroid Prime, Metroid: Other M is seeking to be more traditional, akin to Super Metroid. Reggie stated that it is supposed to be a traditional Metroid with a grittier edge. They're also emphasizing greatly on Samus' story and the mythology behind Metroid.
Another interesting thing Reggie mentions in the interview was the response Nintendo got from other developers after the Metroid announcement. He stated that developers have shown interest in forming partnerships similar to the Teamn Ninja and Nintendo collaboration.
