In an interview with bigdownload.com actor Shia LaBeouf discusses his love for videogames, his feelings on the Wii and what him and the rest of the cast of Transformers Revenge of the Fallen were playing on the set. Click the source for the whole interview.

Have you checked out the Wii Transformers game?
I haven't been able to play the Wii game because my hand is broken. I've just been playing Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. I would imagine that the Wii experience will be like...I don't mess with the Wii, to be honest with you. It's kind of an amateur console. I'm not into the Wii thing.

What's wrong with the Wii?
This is how in a simple way you can find out if it's a gamer you want to play with. Ask them if they have a Wii. If they say yes, get the *bleep* out of there.

Well what happens if they own a Wii and a PS3/360?

      Hideo1 Jun 23, 09
Check what games they have for each system then, depending on the findings, ask them to borrow you some money, ask them to hook you up with the games they get sent early for reviewing or get the *bleep* out of there.

If his hand is indeed broken, how is he playing Xbox or PS3? The Xbox controller is extremely chunky compared to the Wii's and he would be able to fit his hand more on the Wii remote over xbox.
anyway, i don't care, i still love and play my wii from time to time, and i also enjoy my PS3 and 360.

Because he doesn't have to move his hand around and flick his wrists all the time to play the xbox.

That's pretty lame. I have a good gaming PC and a Wii and plan on picking up a PS3 soon...so I'm lame? Owning a Wii doesn't auto-lame anybody but, tbh, it isn't something I parade around.

      Shinobi_razor Jun 22, 09
owning a Wii doesnt make you lame unless its your favorite console and you cant shut up about how awesome it is or you think its better than 360\PS3 (cause its so not). if you just have it because there are occasionally decent titles, thats fine.

      Hideo1 Jun 23, 09
I don't think he had time to explain what he meant completely and expected you to figure out for yourself that his basic meaning was if Wii if there main console of choice they aren't a gamer, since that would have been boring and long.

Obviously his expectations were too high.

I understand sarcasm just fine Hideo.

It's just another generalization of the over used crap about the Wii being a poor system with no good games. It simply isn't true because there are plenty of great titles out there. It isn't Nintendo's fault their system grabbed the largest number of buyers and that attracts the developers in it for a quick buck. It's the buyers responsibility to pick decent games. If they stop buying the shitty games the developer's will stop making shitty games.

Actually it is. Only they don't refer to it as their fault, they refer to it as their business plan. And since a large percentage of people buying Wii games are casual/non gamers I don't think they give two shits about buyers responsibility when it comes to helping Ninty get better games.

Well no, it's not their fault it's sold so well.

It is, however, their fault for catering damn near exclusively to this market.
        • 1
          Hideo1 Jun 23, 09
The term fault implies something went wrong. So you're right, it isn't their fault. They did, however, plan to sell this stuff by the bucketload after seeing the initial reactions and whatnot. For a while they've been pretty much in it for the money, leaving the gaming side with few things overall, so when they saw the Wii and it's gimmicky non-games (Wii sports being the prime one) getting raped by little kids and bored housewives they aimed their behinds at that market and screamed 'come and get it'... so to speak. They planned it all by catering to that market. Credit where it's due they're now minted.

A REAL movie isn't excited about Transformers 2 because it is full of flashy gimicks and untalented actors under the guise of a big-budget summer blockbuster.

Make a general statement about a group of people by way of your opinion and alienate the audience that your movie is geared towards. It's the best way to become a pretentious star like Kanye!

As a real movie fan I find it offensive that Transformers 2 was made to appeal to the lowest common denominator or even that movies such as Transformers gets made in the first place.

I don't think its right to assume that simply because someone owns a wii they're not a gamer. I've been gaming since I was 3, I played all the "hardcore" games like Final Fantasy, Devil May Cry, Call of Duty, Shin Megami Tensei, and many others, but am I suddenly not a "real" gamer because I loved Twilight Princess, No More Heroes, Madworld, Fire Emblem, and Tales of Symphonia 2 on my Wii?

While I could care less about celebrity news, what he said is true. A lot of celebs try to work their image by making claims of being a gamer, to draw a certain audience.

Granted this is probably the same thing, but I can't disagree with that particular statement he made even if he does come off sounding like a douche.

He didn't insinuate that simply owning a Wii (or that its the only console you own) makes you a "freak", simply that there are people like that.

        Cloakblade5 Jun 23, 09
I often get confused as a Wii freak instead of a cheapskate, so I thought I'd ask. I'm also mad about the "real" gamer comment. Is he implying you have to play every genre to be a real gamer or is he implying that you have to play RTS games to be a gamer? Either way....I think he is wrong.
        • 1
          Hideo1 Jun 23, 09
He's implying that he doesn't play RTS and gloat about it because other celebrities have done that in a bid to appeal to gamers. Either that or he's saying RTS isn't for gamers. How you reached your conclusions I don't know.

Don't care about the whole Wii thing, but nice to know he's a relatively avid gamer. The quicker we can get gamers into positions of power, the quicker we an launch the revolution.

Would an avid gamer actually play Transformers 2?

    Ech0ez Jun 23, 09
ANY credebility he had went out the window when he turned down playing a game with Megan Fox. Wii or no Wii =P
In all seriousness though what's the issue here? It's his opinion, no need to throw tantrums over it. If you want to get pissed, aim it at the people broadcasting his opinion like it's important.

Okay, after reading the comments it's ridiculous. After reading the actual article I say this:
I think Shia was either putting on his acting skills, or trying WAY too hard to "appear" to be a "real gamer" and be all rad and hip and cool, a real "hardcore gamer" and not "fake."

I mean, read what he said and pause and think about it . . . Seriously, he's trying way too hard. Either that or he's doing another one of his acting goofy type of a scene.

As for the Wii . . . man people need to grow up with that! Sheesh, so you're a big, bad mature gamer who doesn't think the wii is mature enough . . . your belittling of those who like the wii FAR FROM validates your maturity! It does the opposite.

So owning a wii is fine as long as you don't like it more than the other consoles? Wow. So, what, are you a 360 fanboy? PS3 fanboy? Or are you one of those stuck-up fanboys who just plain hate the Wii because it has games you don't enjoy, so you feel threatened by its success and must bash it to death?

So what, some people like the Wii more than other consoles. That does NOT make them less of a gamer. It means they like games you don't, which is perfect because then they can avoid playing games with those who will flame them for just ENJOYING something.
As for those who say the Wii is better than the other consoles, it's their opinion. If they are fanboyish about it . . . what makes them any worse than the countless 360 and PS3 fanboys? Or any different from those who are anti-Wii?

Alright, rant over. Sorry. And no I wasn't talking about Shia saying these things, only thing about Shia was that I think he was trying WAY too hard to be "cool" and a "real gamer."

      Hideo1 Jun 23, 09
I just think he isn't a proper gamer in the sense we think of the word but rather by comparison to others and he got a little arrogant about it even though he doesn't know enough to properly comment on what he did, nevertheless unchanging the fact what was said was just his harmless opinion. The gamer inside of him is somewhat immature; that's all there is to it really.

Quite frankly there's no need to take his opinion seriously, at all. As far as the gaming Heirarchy goes he's equivacol if not below the average Gamegrep user. The fact he runs a lot in a movie with robots should mean *bleep* all to that xD
      • 1
        HisServant77 Jun 24, 09
Hm, could be. He considers himself a real gamer in light of those he knows and is around. Yet compared to those here on GG or in the gaming community, not so much.

You're right, his opinion is his opinion. I suppose all those complaining about the Wii are saying their opinions too, but don't diss those who like the wii, just because you don't (not you in particular, Hideo, I'm speaking generally).

Nah I think it's just that bashing the Wii makes you a wise and important gamer. Hardcore and all, you know. I honestly didn't mind the movies, except Indiana Jones was horrible just because of the plot, not Shia.

I actually didn't like Shia Labeuf much, but after reading this interview he has gained quite a few awesome points.

Especially saying that he would rather chew on glass than play on a Wii, ROTFLMAO
