Though it has been known for quite some time now that Led Zeppelin is not going to be putting their songs in a rhythm game anytime soon (yet Puff Daddy is okay to lend the music to), Jimmy Page and Jack White are both letting their views known about these type of games.

Note: Jack White has been featured in a music game before. I'm not referring to the upcoming Guitar Hero 5, but in fact that Disney game "Ultimate Band"

When asked for their thoughts on the popular video game music genre, the band members didn't exactly have any kind words to say.

"It's depressing to have a label come and tell you that ['Guitar Hero'] is how kids are learning about music and experiencing music," Jack White said. Though he said he doesn't care "which format people should get their music in…if you have to be in a video game to get in front of them, that's a little sad."

Page agreed and said he doesn't feel players really learn anything significant from playing them.

"You think of the drum part that John Bonahm did on Led Zeppelin's first track on the first album, 'Good Times Bad Times'," he said. "How many drummers in the world can play that part, let alone on Christmas morning?"

Jack has a point, good music shouldn't need to be in a game to get attention. It is what it is though.

Oh, and to answer Jimmy's question. A shit ton, there are tons of ridiculously good drummers out there who are doing things way more difficult than what Led Zeppelin was doing 40 years ago. Shit progresses asshole. Either role with it or get out of the way, your time has come and gone, enjoy your icon status and try not to screw it up with "back in my day" talk.

It's all in your own perception Seproth. I for one believe that the stuff that has progressed today can't be compared to what Bonzo did.

Well good, because the only way i'd listen to THEIR music is if i was forced to on a video game. Guitar hero got me on to real guitar and i'm thankful for it. They should stop being such snobs.

      Snobs?

      They're defending their profession.

Their profession is not playing fake plastic instruments.

The anti-argument is do football players stop kids from playing FIFA? Do men in the army stop kids from playing Call of Duty 4? ... they are just games :\

What's their to defend, this only encourages guitar playing and brings guitar to the masses. So they should *bleep* and deal with it.

You wouldn't listen to Led Zeppelin unless it was in a video game... Seriously? They're probably the 2nd most famous band in the world (only behind The Beatles).

    "Ji-Ji-Ji-"

"Why are there so many guitarists that start with the letter J!?"

Sorry, couldn't help myself I'd listen to thei music if it was catchy, and if I heard it on a commercial or something. And in guita hero games, I usually pick songs that I have heard before.

I agree that it is pretty ridiculous that people won't listen to new music unless they're forced to. When I was younger, the way I was introduced to music was by listening to the radio or rummaging through my dad's CD collection. I never just heard a song on TV or in a movie or a game or anything like that and decided I liked it. I always searched for music and exposed myself to it.

It's probably the reason that hip-hop is gaining more popularity than anything else right now, since it's the only thing you'll hear on television shows directed towards teenagers. I'm not saying that hip-hop is bad or anything, but it's pretty sad when the primary reason it's more popular is because everyone just copies what they see on these "hip" new shows.

If there's one good thing Guitar Hero and Rock Band have done, it's that they helped equalize the distribution of genres among younger generations. Rather than having everyone only exposed to what's on TV, now there's a game that helps expose you to some other stuff as well. In all honesty though, it's still not enough. Even though those two game series probably have song amounts well into the thousands, it's still not enough exposure.

So is Guitar Hero/Rock Band a bad thing? In my opinion, no. But it's still sad that people aren't exposed to anything on these games before playing them. And even the ones they had heard before, they probably heard on TV or on a movie or something. I just wish people would expose themselves to music, instead of being forced to listen to it, or being confined to one genre just because that's what you've always listened to.

I'm not saying everyone is like that, but it sure does seem like the majority are. Most people on websites like this one are probably different, since they are the ones who adventure and involve themselves more, but the typical young person doesn't.
