Ever since the Wii's launch, there had been critisism surrounding Nintendo and whether they are ignoring core games. But according to President and CEO of Nintendo of America, Reggie Fils-Aime, "it’s a mistake to say that we’ve ignored the gamer or that we don’t have products for the core gamer".

Admittedly, Nintendo’s holiday 2009 lineup is much better than last year’s with the inclusion of New Super Mario Bros. Wii. As far as the whole year goes though, there have also been a number of remakes/upgrades/compilation releases. But Reggie Fils-Aime, President and COO of Nintendo of America, believes that it’s a mistake to say that hardcore gamers have been ignored.

“…But I think it’s a mistake to say that we’ve ignored the gamer or that we don’t have products for the core gamer. I mean, New Super Mario Bros. has every gamer excited. Just the little tidbits that we’ve shown about the new Zelda for Wii has gamers tremendously excited. We’re going to continue to bring great content both to that experienced player as well as the brand new player, and that’s what we do really well.”

Not this gamer, I don't think I've ever bought a Nintendo game, and I definitely never want to own any kind of Mario game. They just strike me personally as tedious.

Brawl is a terrible excuse as most of the smash comittee has deemed it "inferior"

And all those games Big A2 mentioned are heavily, HEAVILY overshadowed with the amount of shovel ware coming out from the wii.

You're using Mario Kart Wii and Wario Land as examples for this argument?

          leik, srsly?

Aww come on guys. Play fair. Just because you don't like a Wii game for no reason doesn't mean everyone else does.

Now I know why a good portion of the General Wii Forum regulars don't come here often.

Mario Kart Wii was just a little bit of a bigger version of Mario Kart DS, which was just a little bit of a bigger version etc. etc. until we go back to the first. By now it's only got just enough content to actually be called a sequel and to say it's a game for core gamers is ridiculous because the winner is governed by pure, numbskull, mindless luck. The only viable strategy is hanging back and hoping to get a rocket, since if you actually have any level of skill some retard's gonna hit you with a blue shell. Or are those reasons not valid in your world?

I could go on but the point is Nintendo doesn't care about hardcore gamers. You don't have to dislike the Wii to know that, I know many a people who enjoy the games on the Wii and who can admit that Nintendo have screwed over their hardcore audience. Unless if the general Wii forum regulars are a bunch of deluded freaks who believe Nintendo actually cares about them, then it must be a different reason (probably something to do with FFF), otherwise they wouldn't care.

I didn't say I disliked Twilight Princess, but it was a Gamecube game ported for Wii that came out quite a few years ago now. Just a piss poor example on your part.

They haven't ignored core gamers, they've shouted *bleep* you and shown them a massive middle finger.

With Nintendo keeping Fatal Frame 4 in Japan on purpose. I hope core games like Silent Hill will do well on the Wii in the West.

Maybe that way we'll get some more support, since Nintendo obviously doesn't think it will sell enough to warrant translation. Fanboyism aside, can anyone here say they know many people who bought the hardcore Sega title MadWorld? Anyone? If you didn't buy it and are complaining now no one's releasing core titles, it's kind of your own fault.

No, but I bought Little King's Story. Is that just as good?

      @ Supadupagama

No it's not. I for one am not a fan of the black and white color scheme with just redness all around for blood. Sure it's stylish but I'm not that into it.

So it's not really our fault for not buying a game we just didn't like. Madworld couldn't have possibly done much better on the 360/ps3 consoles anyways with the competition it had during it's release.

The consumer's fault? Coincidentally GameInformer (issue 197, pg. 8-9) showed a lot of complaints from a Wii user in the "Dear GI" section. Saying the same thing, "They are releasing hardcore games, you guys are not buying it!", GI (and other readers) hit the nail on the head. Gamers don't HAVE to buy the extremely limited amount of "niche third party games" to keep it going, seeing as not everyone is not going to like the game. There's not much they can do about it....except to release MORE third party games which seem to be in great shortage since launch.

Well "Reggie", I think its a mistake to continue your deluded life in the continual "we support hardcore gamers" bullshit which you continue to spin.

    Just my opinion...

"Ignoring core gamers? As if! We got a new Mario game coming out!"

...Is that seriously his best shot? Haha, I'm so glad I gave up on Nintendo.

Reggie should be fired, he is possibly the biggest idiot ever.

"We don't ignore core gamers, were releasing Super Mario Galaxy 1.5! It's Super Mario Galaxy....WITH YOSHI!"

Miss Razz appears to have deliberately picked a photo that makes him look incredibly dumb, nice choice, hehe. Hey Reggie, your village called and they want their idiot to come back
Seriously though, how can he think that just making regular Mario games will make everybody happy? Not everybody's thing Reggie mate.

Everytime I see that photo of Reggie, it makes me laugh. There's something about his expression that seems so appropriate for every article about him. It's now my default pic for every Reggie article.
