In a recent interview with washingtonpost.com, Nintendo's Reggie Fils-Aime discusses what he would change about the Wii's launch, whether Nintendo will ever create their own phone, and his thoughts on Sony's PSP GO...

The closest Reggie comes to taking a jab at a competitor, in conversation, is when Sony's PlayStation Portable, the PSP Go, comes up. The device eschews physical media -- there are no game discs or cartridges, in other words -- and opts instead for a download store.

"I have the utmost respect for all our competitors," he said, "but it's interesting to try and answer the consumer question of 'What's in it for me?' in that product."

he's got a point. there is literally no upside to the pspgo - it's just a psp with severely stunted features, and a higher pricetag.

Funny, I had the exact same question for the DS Lite and the DSi.

Unlike the PSPGo however, these don't feel like big steps backwards.

In short, I agree. I really want to like the PSP Go. I really want to get the PSP Go. But seriously . . . Why should I? It does less than the current PSP models (and past models), and costs so much more.

Now when the price drops to about $100 or less, THEN it'll be worth it to me.

But I'd love to get it, if it had decent features. I like the idea of having a small, portable, media-less PSP that I could carry in my pocket and automatically have everything I need (don't need to carry games or movies and all). But I like features. I love features. I love the media functions of the PSP. The media possibilities of the PSP are what got me to buy one in the first place. What does this one do? It seems much less.

One thing I think they should do absolutely, to make it at least somewhat worth buying, is implement 3G technology into the device and let it have free connection. That way you don't need a hotspot or even a phone to provide online functions or buy from the store. Instead . . . you can do it anywhere at all just about! That would make it somewhat tolerable. Also Make it possible for the public to create different programs/apps for it. THEN it'll be close to worth my buying it. Give me some more features . . . and It'll be a buy from me.

Theirs ONE upside to buying a PSP Go and that is that this guy isn't the president of the damn company your buying it from.
