Akitoshi Kawazu, Square Enix developer, has said that he wants the Final Fantasy franchise to last forever.
In a recent interview, Kawazu was asked if gamers will ever see a final Final Fantasy. He said:

"I would of course be delighted if Final Fantasy will last forever. When I die, it would be an honor if standing on my tombstone, "He was involved in the first Final Fantasy!" That would be fantastic - literally!"

      It's the ultimate form of irony, considering the name of the franchise...

        My thoughts exactly.

        I bet the world will end before FF does.

    Square Enix just created a hole in the universe.

    Please...please no, Squenix. Don't do it...

    If you're going to milk the franchise for that long, for God's sake change the name of the franchise; how can the Fantasy be Final if it goes on forever??

      I really can't consider it milking a franchise in this case. As much as Final Fantasy's are similar they're all different. Just as different as any other JRPG in the genre. It just so happens that these all run under the same name. Though aside from the side games, all are self-contained. It's not like your Resident Evils or Tomb Raiders.

      I don't understand why you would want it to stop? Especially when they continually produce quality games. Themes may be reused, styles and designs may be familiar, but you really can't fault Square for creating some of the most complete packages one can buy when it comes to this kind of gaming.

        They're kind of locking themselves into one genre. If they continue within that one genre "forever", I can imagine that eventually it'll get stale.

        Plus, I never was a fan of turn-based RPGs, so I have little enthusiasm for this to begin with. Begin the hating now.

          Square makes more than just FF. Besides, that's what other developers are for. This is really just a baseless stance if you ask me, I mean they're delivering top quality products time after time.

          Well, if they can keep producing games without rehashing anything, power to them. They just ought to change up their style every so often, so that when 2100 rolls around, we aren't still all talking about Cloud and such. I mean even if the gameplay can refresh itself every so often, if you keep it in the same setting, you will eventually tire of it.

      I don't really consider it milking anything. FF is just like any other JRPG but a world wide known franchise name.

        Ugh i'd say they were milking it a tad now. Theres only so many stories and plot lines you can revolve around crystals xD

          Only Final Fantasy that's been constantly milked is Final Fantasy VII with it's constant spin-offs sequels and prequels ; ;

    Well with the amount of money they're making at the moment I don't doubt that they want it to continue to the end of time itself.
