Tim Ingham of computerandvideogames.com gets the information on the new DSi: XL which has been copping some slack from gamers. James Honeywell, Nintendo Senior Product Manager for the Nintendo DS, states ""It's absolutely not [just for old people]" and goes on to say why it should be an interesting hand-held console to everyone and insists it's more popular than past version.
The increased screen and pen size of the DSi XL have led some to assume that the device is custom made for short-sighted grandmas and grandpas.
It's absolutely not [just for old people]. DSi XL appeals to as many people, if not more, than its predecessors.

I know the increased screen size is a good thing and a larger pen goes hand in hand, but still.
The DSi XL is clearly for the mature audience. The older crowd, the ones that don't care about portability at all. The older crowd who say that the DS's buttons are too small for their fingers (ironically though, the buttons are still the same size).
No DS owner, since they've own the damn thing, has said "Man, I wish this thing was bigger so I could see it better." No, they have said the complete opposite. We want the device to be smaller so it can fit in our pocket neatly. When we think of a handheld console, portability is the top priority. The slimmer the better. The XL just makes that a whole lot worse and I don't see how anyone who already owns a DS or plans to own one would think about getting this huge box over the already neat and nearly perfect sized DS Lite and DSi.
