Peter Molyneux unveiled new Fable III features including the new touch system which allows you to.. touch other characters.. for better or for worse.

Other features announced include new ways the character will morph and... “Look at the screen! It’s completely clean! Why do we need the *bleep*ing health bar?” no HUD (heads-up display) at all.

Molyneux is either a genius or completely insane, and where are my growing trees?!

Microsoft game designer Peter Molyneux took the veil off his latest role-playing game Fable III at the X10 event in San Francisco on Thursday. He showed an early build of the game that introduces a few new mechanics that are aimed, as is the developer’s wont, at enhancing the emotional connection that players feel with the game’s characters. In Fable II, you got an adorable, loyal dog. In Fable III, you can bond with other characters by touching them.

“It narrows the emotional boundary,” Molyneux said. For good or for evil.

Looks like someone didn't play Fable 2... as it was the same.

I should've made note that I was quoting Peter Molyneux from the article, and from what I recall Fable II actually did have a health bar with a little heart that would pop up when you got injured as well as the d-pad configuration on the bottom left. So it definitely did have a some form of HUD.

Fable 2 did have a HUD and a health bar, it just disappeared when you didn't need to see it.

I think the HUD system in Fable 2 worked really well, and I don't see much of a benefit in totally getting rid of it.
