Lisa Foiles was an actress on the Nickelodeon show All That during her teen years, but is now better known as a gamer and one of Kotaku's celebrity columnists.
In a recent interview with original-gamer.com, Foiles discussed how she became a writer for Kotaku, what it's like being a female gamer and a columnist on a game site, and the hate that she has recieved.

O.G.: On Kotaku one of the writers wrote an article about getting over girl gamers and you wrote a reply article about the differences between girl gamers and girls that play games. Give us a quick synopsis of that article you wrote.

Lisa: That was actually the initial connection with Kotaku. I never had any intention of going after Kotaku in order to write for the site. It was funny because I read that article, and said I didn't agree with this. I wrote my own response, and I didn't put that much time or effort in making a good response. I basically wrote about how I felt and sent it to Kotaku. Then I received a reply from Brian Crecente saying that he liked my strong opinion on this, and that started my relationship with Kotaku.

The original article was about gamer girls not special because you see all these girls with a DS and all these female celebrities playing games. Basically I was writing that, no, I don't feel that those girls should be considered 'gamers'. I feel that they're casual gamers and they can have that title. Games are really special to me. I know it sounds so weird to love games as much as I do, but they have a soft spot in my heart. And I feel that the term 'gamer' should be reserved for those who know their stuff. Those who played games for most of their life, or if they're fairly new to it, they go out and research about games to know who makes them and so on. It should be more special than someone going out and buying a Guitar Hero game saying that they're a gamer now. That's just how I feel.
