In a recent interview with Gamasutra, Crytek's co-founder Cevat Yerli discussed why graphics are important in this generation of gaming.

Go to the source for the full interview.

Crytek will release Crysis 2 into an environment that wants to declare the high-budget console game a dinosaur in the face of digital and social gaming. A game like FarmVille, as is the common refrain of investors and venture capitalists, can garner millions of users and plenty of revenue without focusing on graphics at all.

"I think graphics matter a lot," Yerli asserts. "It depends on the type of game. If graphics and technology, AI and physics provide you a better experience but a challenge, then ultimately it does matter. You can get an experience out of Crysis 2 you just don't get anywhere else."

Why? Obviously storyline and gameplay are infinitely important. But if they don't even make an attempt at making the game attractive then chances are it's a dud. There are always exceptions, but more often than not the best games have great graphics for their time.

Well I have had a lot of fun with games that are considered TERRIBLE.A perfect example is the Army Men games.I like them games but they rarely got more than 3/10.

ONLY gameplay matters to me.I could easily play a PS3 game that looks like a PS2 game as long as it's fun.

Graphics do matter. Just no where near as little as they should. It's like films, I guess. You can have the greatest plot with the greatest characters but the majority of the populace won't care unless there's a car chase somewhere in it.

Games with shit graphics can still be brilliant, but most people won't really care for them, which means they won't sell, harming the companies and, ultimately, the industry.

Lady Gaga, another example. She was once normal, and could actually sing; no really, I've seen it. But she sold out and gave people what they wanted, a wannabe crazy bitch who where's the carcass of Kermit the frog who just shouts a little. Would people have cared if she had stayed normal and actually a good singer? Of course not.

      It's a shame but it's true.

No, because he didn't. He just was always a professional troll.

          'Homophobic, nah you're just heterophobic,
Staring at my jeans watching my genitals bulging,
They're my mother*bleep*ing balls, you better let go of them,
They belong in my scrotum, you'll never get hold of them.'
